Hello, a friend has just bought a working cocker who has already had an affix added as a suffix i.e they are named:
breeders' affix ..................at first owners' affix
can they take off the at"..............." to add their affix?
Hope that makes sense, it did before I typed it!

I think names can only be changed once, ie to add the first new owner's affix at the end. I'm fairly sure that's the final name possible.

Edit: I've just checked the KC's Change of Name form, and it says that "The name of a dog may only be changed once by the addition of an affix to the registered name."

I thought that might be the case but it crossed my mind that it may be possible to remove the second affix, thank you!

It's always worth phoning the KC for confirmation. :)

I will suggest that they do that, I must admit, I like to see my affix on my dog's pedigree. Strange enough until I was asked I hadn't thought about it.

If a dog is returned to it's breeder and has had it's name changed by adding the new owners affix as a suffix, the breeder can remove the suffix. However only if the dog is NOT in the stud book.

So, this can be done by transferring the dog back into the breeders name, removing the suffix, and transferring it back to your name. It is NOT possible to then re-add another affix. The dog would have to remain as it was, breeders affix, name.

You will need form 16 Removal of Affix.
