I would like to know if the train station is far from the showground, or any tips on busses etc
My dad lived in nottingham & I used to go on the train there & he would drive me, but he has now moved so I have to find alternitive ways
Thanx if anyone can help
Hi! Might be a bit of a hassle if you are taking a dog. If you're not, it isn't too bad. The showground isn't walking distance of the train station, but when you get off the train, you can get a bus as far as the University. That's the end of the line, you have to walk the rest of the way, straight up main road (grass verge!), for about a mile or maybe just over. I've done it this way with the children, but wouldn't fancy taking a dog - the grass verge along the side of the road could be wet or muddy this time of year. Not sure about actual distance of train station to show ground - think it's about 4 miles.
When I used to show cats, I used to get a taxi there.

Hi - thanx a taxi would be OK if they are OK with dogs!
Allways take the dogs on the train so no different, just before we used to go up the day before & stay overnight in nottingham with my dad & he drove us in the morning.
He now lives in lincs but has offered to do the same for me, he used to show & still enjoys watching :-)
That's the problem, I don't know if taxis would take dogs - maybe they'd be okay with a small breed, but probably wouldn't take a larger dog - but to be honest, I've never asked! I suppose if it was one of those black cabs it wouldn't be a problem, they have loads of floor space and not carpeted usually, but you don't see them everywhere!

Hilda, you need to do some phoning around. Down here some are happy for them to be the boot. You might just have to phone round and ask :)
I travel by Taxi everytime I travel from either the Hotel or Railway to the Showground. I have only once had a problem with a driver in Stafford, who did allow the dog to travel so long as he stayed on the floor. So you should be okay. I found that on the last trip the rank was very busy and the other drivers noted that I was waiting with a dog and must have radioed other drivers as a MPV arrived with covers on the seats. Approx cost from Railway to Showground £10

Thats another thing - last time I wanted to enter a show in staffordshire I could not find a hotel that takes dogs :-(
I did not go in the end.
Any ideas for this - pref one between the train station & showground?
My dad is helping me out this time but he now lives 2 hrs away so I dont think he will do it often!
Thanx!
Tillington Hall takes dogs, in fact its the Hotel that accommodates the Judges etc for the Houndshow. Its the opposite direction to the Showground but the Taxi Takes the back way. The Garth Hotel also accepts dogs but it has been closed this year, I think??
Awww, I can't put my dog in the boot - I'd be worrying he'd be running out of air or something!!!!

A few years ago at least there was a bus that went riht past the showground. It was the Main Interurban service to Hixton and Utoxeter can't see the number because the crease has worn away on the timetable I have. The service was two hourly, on satrudays, starting 8.35.
It starts at Town Centre, Pitcher Bank, via beaconside, and arriving at the showground 10 minutes later.
Hi Tennostaffs
I live a few miles (about 8) away from Stafford, if you would like me to do some looking around for you, I gladly will.
My daughters friend also runs a Taxi business, if you need a quote.
When is the Show? and what dog do you have?
Kind Regards, Sue

Hi SashaKameo thanx for the offer!
It is january 20th but my dad is picking me up now. But I will be looking for hotels/B&B that take dogs for future shows if you could ask around please?
I would prefer less expensive ones!!!
Also it would be great for a taxi number for when I am there that I know will take 2 staffies. (Both are well behaved in the car in sit on the floor)
Thanx for the offer :-)
Hi Tennostaffs
Good Luck with your journey to Stafford in January.
I will have a look around for B&B's in the area for you, if you should need something at a later date, if I had a spare bedroom you could willingly stay with me.
Stafford County Showground is in quite an isolated area, but if you didn't want to stay in Stafford itself, there is a village further on from the Showground (Weston), or Staffordshire Uni the other way, there is bound to be something near.
I will find you some Taxi no.'s too, but if you get stuck, I have 2 dog cages in my vehicle, I wouldn't mind picking you up. (are you a female on your own? only asking as some of the B&B's in Stafford are rather grotty)
I will PM you at a later date if that's ok with you.
Kind Regards, Sue, Sasha & puppy Heidi xxx
