Hello Everyone!

I was hoping for some words of wisdom from people who outdoor kennel their dogs. I have always used outdoor kennels for my dogs with no problems. But, and I am SO excited, I have ordered two new outdoor runs which will be delivered next week. There was a few things about the old ones that just niggled me!
Anyway, here's the question. In the indoor sleeping area part of the kennel, I am putting insulating material and a small internal partition to hold the insulation in place (and also for easy cleaning). I have a removable "half ceiling" which I can slot into position in winter for extra cosiness and remove in the summer when I want more circulating air. I have some thick rubber matting for the floor (again for added warmth and easier cleaning).
Now, here's my question (at long last!)...I have never used any form of kennel heating in the past. But, this time round, I am considering whether I should have the option of installing some form of heating. Whether that be heat lamps, heated pads in the beds (probably my preference at this stage) or some other form of heating.
The breed I own is Border Collies. Anyone any thoughts on the best form of outdoor kennel heaters? Or indeed if you think it's completely unnecessary?

I like under floor heating, it makes sure the floor stays dry even if they've been paddling in the rain, doesnt matter if they dont lay in their bed & its more difficult for them to chew it ( depending on what surface you have on it i suppose lol )
We're having a couple of double kennels built at the mo, not for the dogs to live in, just when the girls have been in the smelly ditches to dry off in or when young kids come round some dont like dogs, so the dogs will get a bone each & left in peace in their keenels, but ours will be having under floor heating :D
I've seen those bar heaters chewed before & on a cold day they dont put out that much heat.

What about heat lights! It is difficult, if the kennels are away
from the house, as rads are the best.
I would just make sure that there is no wires, ect: in there reach.
The floor must be dry and warm. I have kennel and runs.
I have the kennel double glazed heat light, and was going to use wood chippings on the floor.
It is tiled. But! don't use the kennel only the runs. they sleep inside the veranda,

My G-parents Aussie doesn't have heating but has it raised off the floor, has about 3 layers of old carpets in the bottom plus a few dog bedding sheets that he can position as required.  It is insulated and is draught proof due to having a "corridor/hallway" before going into the main box.  This is very warm and his whole reason for being outside was he hated the heat inside!  Personally I wouldn't mind sleeping in his bed :)
