hi everyone, i am just curious to know what percentage of stillborns people have experienced when breeding. i have a small breed and my litter sizes over the years have averaged 4. however in each litter i have had a stillborn pup, they always seem completly normal just never take a breath no matter how hard i try.my breed do not struggle and take ages to deliver,my last girl had 5 in 3 hours but the penaltimate one was stillborn.
i would just like peoples thoughts on the matter, thank you

Luckily I've never had either a stillborn puppy nor one die subsequently.

I've only had one litter myself - 4 pups all healthy. In the past my dogs have sired over 100 pups with no stillborns.

my bitch has had one litter of 11 and 3 were stillborn. one was half way through the birth and was tiny but the other 2 were right at the end but normal size--nothing i did would revive them, i just think they were in there too long- she pushed for 12 hours.
the 8 remaining were healthy and all went to lovely homes

In my Spanish the first 3 litters born, each of the last pups were born stillborn.  I soon found out that Spanish get lazy after a while and end up now being able to get Oxotocin (don't know if that's the right word) from my vet to inject myself and never had any problems since!

I did have one stillborn and after around 4 minutes brought him back to life.  He was a big boy and was actually about 3 times the length of the rest whilst being born, he looked like a sausage, he did eventually go to the correct shape and is still alive and very well today 5 years later :d

:D :D :D   laughing at myself as I had to read that line a few times before I realised that you weren't actually injecting yourself but injecting the bitch yourself.

Over many, many years of breeding, I have never had a stillborn or a puppy die, I am always there for every second of the births and spend the first two weeks very close to the pups incase mum should sit on them. Infact I am just as much a mum as my bitch is. I always give my bitches fresh meat pre-birth. Infact they are better fed than me!!! I don't know whether this makes a difference, but I think it must as I have never lost a single pup. I would be so upset to have a stillbirth, and feel for all of you who have had to go through that. :-(

i was there for every second of the birth too! she had fresh meat pre-birth and i spent 2 weeks sleeping next to them  and i still had 3 stillborn! i dont think it was anything i did wrong- it was just a large litter and a long labour
