Have to agree with Pedlee on this one - I go by my dogs, not by the packet. If it takes pressure to feel the ribs I put them on a diet - cut their kibble down, as I am with my dobe at the moment. If the ribs are visible, I up the food. To me the perfect weight is like my rott X - her ribs are easily felt but not visible. The vet also says she is in perfect weight and health. It's a personal thing, really, and depends on the individual dog, as pedlee says - my rottX gets 4 cups a day whereas my dobe gets 3, and he weighs (when in proper weight, of course) about 2.5kg more than her.
