We've got our first show on Saturday and I was wondering what actually happens at exemption shows? Are the pedigree classes like an open show only mixed breed?
Thanks,
Fiona

Dear Fiona,
Exemption shows should be a little more relaxed than open shows.
The pedigree classes are normally
Puppy (6-12 months old)
Sporting (Terriers/Hounds/Gundogs)
Non-Sporting (Working/Pastoral/Utility/Toy)
Open (open to all breeds)
At some shows I have seen dogs in the wrong classes, but
if you wanted to give Holly practise you can put her in Puppy & Sporting
classes.
The Novelty's are the fun classes, such as Best Condition etc.
I personally like the exemption shows, especially when you have a puppy.
I normally do the puppy class and say a fun novelty class like cutest puppy/prettiest bitch or best condition.
Which exemption show are you going to? (Good Luck)
Kindest Regards
Kirstine

Thanks Kirstine,
I was pretty sure what I was doing but didn't want to make an idiot of myself :D We're going to a show over Cranleigh way (it's entered in the diary) and hopefully Holly will behave herself.

Fiona,
Will try to make the show as Cranleigh is not far from me.
May take my Lab for a laugh and enter her won't take the Border Collie as he hates being shown.

How did you & Holly get on at the exemption show today?
I'm going lure coursing for the first time tommorrow near Newbury
with Kiera & Yonnie.

We didn't go :( I gave her a bath this morning, got her looking and smelling nice and clean and discovered she's in full season.
As I combed down her back, her tail flicked off to one side and it became obvious that all the slobbering and slurping she's been doing over the past 10days or so has been her keeping herself clean.
We've got another show next Sunday and I'm hoping that she'll be okay by then - it's an open show and I think the classes are mixed so I'm not to sure what to do at the moment.
Typical really, but there are plenty of other shows :)
