I'm just doing a bit of homework for my dog training course, and I have to list 100 things that my dog would find reinforcing, that I could use in training; also I have to list 5 fave foods, 5 fave games and 5 fave other activities.
Talk about an eye-opener! Suddenly I feel woefully inadequate as an owner - I managed to get 5 for each of the last 3 lists for Remy, but they weren't just his faves - they were the only things I could think of at all! Makes me realise that I don't know him as well as I thought. It also makes me want to get off my idle butt and work much harder for him and Opi :D
The 100 things list is going slightly better, though I'm starting to struggle - at the mo I have 34 things, 24 of which are food!
edit: make that 37!!
Cor this is a good one to make us all think, ok just off the top of my head & inbetween burning dinner & writting reports ......
Play time
fav toy
walk
run in the garden
run out in open space
scents, could be rabbit, pheasant, duck, rat ( this is a great one for a dog that isnt toy or food motivated & no you dont use the animal alive or dead :D pmsl )
a scratch in a fav place, like behind the ear or on the chest or belly
playtime with another dog
your voice
your attention
a stroke
a massage
a ride in the car ( some dogs like it lol)
going somewhere new
a swim
being groomed ( my boy loves his zoom groom )
a clicker session
foods, liver cake, peporamie (spelling ?) ham, cheese, chicken, dried liver
hunting, could be a gundog just naturally investigatng a field, woodland or a dog hunting for food you've hidden round the home or garden
you could also play, put a peice of food under one of three exact pots & get them to tell you which one its under & they get the food
find your toy
fetch
put your toys away
God there's loads & now i think dinner is really burning :O, hth & good luck :D
