Hi
I have not been to a staffie
show, i thought dogs dont get
shown with a collar and lead,
they use a rope (gun dog lead !!)  usually white.
I might be wrong, don't think collars
are used in showing.
a more experienced person should be along soon.

Dogs are shown on a variety of different leads depending on the breed/dog itself!  I normally show on full lenght chains! or leather slip!

All the Staffies I've seen are shown on a broad(sometimes very ornate)leather collar & leather lead

Never seen a staff shown on a rope lead-are you confusing them with Bull Terriers ?

Yes MM is right. Its English Bull Terriers that are shown with a rope slip lead. Staffordshire bull terriers are shown with a leather collar and lead usually with brass and ornate fittings. A good website to look at for ordering staffordshire bull terrier collars and lead is www.hideandcollars.co.uk. Sorry I can't do links.
Kind regards Clare

Thanx for that!  I have orderd some staffie collars with brass fittings but had them hand made a bit smaller & of softer leather (I think some of the collars I have looked at very stiff & would feel sorry for the dogs if they wore them.)

At shows I have seen a few staffs with these but also some with plain collars/leads & a few with slip/choke type leads.

Thanx

Cheers MM!! I'll have to learn how to do links one of these days!
- By Moonmaiden Date 08.11.05 12:54 UTC
lolol it's simple(must be if I can do it ;))

[link] then the full  url [/link] without any spaces !

If the url is very long you can use http://www.tinyurl.com to get a shorter one

To put the link up as one/two words
[link the full url with a space between it & the k of link}Then the words here[/link]

The keys are the type of brackets have to be the [ ] ones & the space in the second type of link !

LOLOL that probably make no sense at at :D

Hi Tennostaffs

There is no hard and fast rule about which sort of collar and lead to show your staff in.  Your plain leather one should do fine, as the judge is judging the dog not its attire!  However, there are some fancier types which you should be able to buy at major pet retailer who will let you try the collar on before buying. Personally, I don't like the big brass studded ones.  The best thing for you to do is to go to a Stafford breed club show where there are always stalls selling nice leads which are appropriate for staffs.  Good luck.

Charly
