Does anyone else on the forum share their house with a chinchilla. We got two tans a little while back and  unfortunatley one of them died last week. It was a real shame as they are so young and were both bought as males but one turned out to be a girl so we had the boy castrated only for his sister to die on him.
Luckily we are getting another little beige boy tomorrow from a breeder near by. The kids are so excited about their new arrival. Was just wondering if anyone else kept them?

I used to keep Chins, I had two from when I worked in a petshop, one died so I rescued a new friend from the RSPCA.  Last year the original one died :(  I decided I really didnt have time to give him all the attention he needs what with the dogs and cats so I gave him to chinchilla rescue, this man had a house full of chinchilla cages and before he re-homes he introduces them to another so they always go in pairs.  I still feel guilty about giving up "herman" to rescue but im sure it was for the best and I bet he is really happy :)

I havent got any but i think they are lovely and have always wanted to have some but oh says 'NO' :(
He never had any pets when he was growing up and when my son and i moved in with him so did our little kitty and thats was enough for him!!
untill we moved into a bigger house then came fishes and then came Ruby (our great dane puppy)
I would have a house full of animals but have been told thats it no more :(

I have admired them for years. I made a promise to myself that when my life gets onto an even keel I would like to have them.

But I would have to do my research first. Years ago, a friend of mine had 8 of them and she always used to say that if you've got a noisy, frenetic household don't have them because they don't like all the noise. So that rules me out I suppose :(

If I decided that I could have them, I'd like to get them from rescue :)

I have 8 chins at the moment 6 adults, 1 at 5mths abd one at 2 weeks. I also have 1 calm dog, 1 loud mouth munsterlander and a 10month old baby so not exactly a peaceful house hold and it doesnt seem to stress my chins out at all.
