Just got a 5 door polo and I've put the back seats down flat and made it all nice and cosy for my two girls. However, there's no dog-guard separating front from back, and I'm not keen on the idea of using leads as a means of restraining them- don't want their necks breaking- but do need some sort of safety measure putting in place. Has anybody got much experiance with using harnesses and are there any that are less complicated to put on!!  OR anyone know of any made to measure dog-guards? I know you can get them for the boot, but obviously to separate the fron from the back seat is a different matter.

Thanking you all!

For a front seat dog guard try:

Bit of a bodge job this, but what I've done (I have the same setup in a fiesta) is used a regular tubular dog guard, and cable-tied a panel of mesh along the bottom so the dogs can't get under it, and then cable-tied the upright tubes to the poles in my headrests, to prevent the whole thing slipping down the back of the chairs - that depends on your car whether you need to do it, of course - my stupid car has a back seat that has to be taken out, not just folded up, so the guard used to slip down into the footwells when my dogs leaned on it.

you can get custom guards from 'mmguards'- ring them with measurements and they can do you a quote :)

Why don't you use one of them transport boxes that are also used for airplanes? it works for me. I had one for my Staffy mix and for my Chihuahua. In my country it is the law that your dog is closed from the passenger arrea (you can use anything from special leads to boxes), so I had no other choice.

If you are going to use an airline carrier box it may not stand up to repeated use, after all they are designed for infrequent use not daily use.

It may also be a problem getting it into your car depending on the size of dog/carrier.  The other thing to consider is making sure it is stable and secure and cannot move around, go from side to side etc.

Thanks everyone, I'm hoping to get something sorted in the next day or so.
