Has anybody any experiences in the ChromaGene coat color tests performed by Vetgen?

Yes, I had 2 Flatcoats of my own & 2 I bred done.
My oldest boy is black himself but has liver at the back of him (4th generation) & although the chance was slim, I was interested to see if he carried it.  He came back pure black.

The other 3 are also black, out of my black bitch who has a liver father (therefore carries the liver gene herself) by a black bred dog.  Again, I wanted to see who from the litter carried the liver gene. There were only 4 pups in this litter, 1 boy & 3 girls.  My boy came back black/liver & 2 girls are pure black.  The other girl hasn't been tested, she's in a pet home and has been spayed, but I may get her done just out of interest.

VetGen gave a 1st class service. I was very impressed.

so how long did it take from start to finish to get the results back?
I have a choc lab and am very interested to see if she is carrying the yellow gene just so i know what i may end up with gene wise when i get her mated in the spring.
Did you fax the form or send it by post?
thanks for answering my queries.

Is it expensive to do this, and if I have my dogs D.N.A. profiled can it be done from those results or do they need to do a seprate test? How can I look into the people that do this research.

I wonder what they would come up with for the Spanish, especially as you never have a clue what colours they may produce :d

I think it says it cost $85,as it's american, which is why it probably takes so long to get results, the lab breeders in the village have used it once and i just wondered if any body else had any experiences of them.
http://www.vetgen.com/color.html  is the site

I used Heathgene to test my puppy, it cost me £40 which is $70 canadian dollars, it took only a couple of weeks, they can email you the result, or ring you it is up to you. Then they post the certificate to you. Plus I was very happy as my puppy turned out that he carries Liver.
There site is www.healthgene.com (They are in canada)

It cost me about £40 each to get mine done. They sent mine out within a week of sending for it, as they are sent out from the UK. Took about three weeks from when I sent the samples off to get the results back.

Hi hopevalley,
I've sent for some sample collections kits from healthgene today as they don't charge you until you return the samples,I'm not sure i'm very good at this sort of thing so if i mess up i haven't lost any money!!! I've got another 3 months til i get her mated and it will easier to understand the puppies genes if i know what the parents are carrying.
