Topic Dog Boards / Health / sore paw

My Tibetan Terrier has  a seemingly incurable sore paw.  She licks and chews in between her toes and the pads are red raw. I have been to the vets twice, and she has had antibiotics both times and an injection and for the time being it ceases, then once the course of tablets is over back she goes to her foot.  Last time he gave me steroids for her but I just couldn't give them to her, he said there shouldn't be any side effects for a short term amount but I still didn't like the idea.  He also gave me some foul tasting liquid which is effective until it wears off, I brush it on night and morning, but it has no healing qualities. I would be so grateful for any suggestions that might help cure this problem. Regards Jane

As you've had the dog to the vet, they've probably checked everything.  However, copper had a constantly sore paw which he was biting at all the time.  Eventually I noticed that a tiny piece of grass seed had lodged right in between the skin of his toes and it must have been irritating him.  I managed to get it out with tweezers and the problem went away.  It was a really tiny piece of seed that I hadn't noticed before I really had a good look.  Might be worth having another look if the dog will let you, there might just be something stuck there.

I agree with copper, usually there is always a cause! Maybe a second opinion would be of help??? All the best, Dawn
