I have a 1 year old Basset Hound. I would love to let her have puppies.

For a start she's far too young at the moment. She'll need to have passed all the breed-relevant health tests for hereditary conditions. Her breeder (if reputable) will no doubt advise you what these are, and which bloodlines to steer clear of if you want to avoid problems. Otherwise contact your breed club for specialist advice.

Remember there's no requirement for a bitch to have puppies, and it's not unheard of for previously healthy bitches and/or litters to die before, during or after whelping. Don't contemplate it unless you're prepared to risk losing her.
