when you see a doggy on a lead already you will put yours on - I've no problem with that...provided I can get to my dog before he sees the leaded one! yes i am practising distance control, recall etc but hes a Big pup.
What really annoys me is when the other dog owners have theri dog/s off lead then suddenly see mine also off lead and as theirs are close by they stick theirs on lead and expect me to do the same! why oh why can't they just leave theirs off lead to meet and greet mine! its a dogs life, they can communicate better than we can!

If you can't control your dog sufficiently to get it back, then don't let it off when their might be other dogs around.......  Practise getting it back under all sorts of distractions, practise getting it back in all sorts of places.  Other people are thinking of YOUR DOG - they have theirs under control when it is on the lead.  Before I had her, my dog had met one too many 'big pups' whose owners had no control over them, and she uses her own very special painful way of 'meeting and greeting', so she goes on the lead for the safety and protection of the other dog.

Your dog should not be off lead by the sounds of things.  Get a training lead, where your dog can go quite a distance but you are still under control.

Sorry but people who allow their dogs to do this really annoy me.  One of my dogs doesn't like his personal space being invaded as I don't.  You do need to control your dog.

My boy used to be thrown over and mauled by "playful" large puppies when he was a pup now he hates medium to large sized dogs and it's no fun for me or him when people allow this to happen!

One word - FLEXILEAD!

How dare you criticize people for responsibly leashing their dogs. How would you feel if your big pup ended up in the vets after being severely bitten by a smaller dog it was trying to make friends with? How would you feel if I let my puppy off who is probably a lot bigger than yours and he came runing over to play and flattened your pup being friendly, scaring the life out of him in the process? You wouldn't like it one bit and that's why I keep my puppy on a flexilead. Have more consideration for other people and their dogs. If you can't trust your pup to recall without molesting other people/dogs, he shouldn't be running loose.

I'm very sorry, but if i left me spaniel off lead to "meet and greet" yours the way he is at the moment you would probably end up with a very scared pup! He is perfectly entitled to free exercise when there are no dogs around and i know that i can call him back should i need to when another dog approaches. Would you prefer it if i left him to attack yours? Yes it may be annoying but thats life, be thankful that we are being responsible.

Would you like me to leave all 4 off mine offlead to meet and greet yours?  My 4 dogs are a pack, nomatter what anyone tells you dogs live in packs, and stick up for each other!  Would your dog be happy with 4 setters running upto him?  Or would you like me to put them on the lead?  Considering we have two dogs and two bitches, any male dog that get's persistant with our bitches so much they will turn and give a word of warning (not bite!) then the males will protect their girls.

This is why we only run two at a time unless 3+ people and where we go there are very few dogs! and even less people.

I agree with all the previous posts. You need to train your dog, not critisise others for having well trained dogs.

My puppy ALWAYS goes on lead when there are other dogs (friendly or not), even if they are off lead. This teaches her that she cannot run up to other dogs or people, unless I say it's ok.

It's called good manners, and it's people that have out of control dogs, that give the rest of the dog-owning population a bad name.

Use a long line and your walks will be more relaxing.

Cheers,
Patty
