I currently have an 18month old female Lhasa Apso and 2 cats. She gets on really well with cats and also with my mums Shitzu. We have just had my mums dog to stay for 2 weeks while she was on holiday and they got on really well and played together all the time. We were thinking of getting another dog because she trys to play with the cats but they don't really respond! And we thought it would be nice for her to have another dog in house. She is currently left alone for about 2 - 3 hours every weekday and we thought it would be good for her to have some company as well. The trouble is that we have heard that Lhasas can be jealous if you try to introduce a new dog into the house and can become naughty or hostile toward the new dog. She is not jealous of the cats, although they were here before her, and she doesn't seem to be jealous of my mum's dog. I have tried to find some info about this from the internet but can't seem to find anything. Does anyone have any experience or info about this? We were thinking of getting another Lhasa or similar small dog.
P.S. I originally posted this in guests questions section.
In my situation it worked really well getting another dog, however totally different breed so I couldn't say it would be the same. I'm sure someone with better knowledge of the breed will answer.
In my situation, my older dog really thrived having a four legged companion and they get on very well (actually after only a few months they pine for each other when not together!).
I did have the benefit of having 6 weeks off work when he first arrived, which definately helped.

Hi there , i was writing the exact same post a couple of weeks ago...............to my peril i found out my staffi is not very kind to new editions to the family , they are both hostile to each other and i feel unable to offer the new pup the time and sole loving she needs, my elder is making her act hostile and they never give up fighting ,it starts out ok but ends up with snarling and teeth. Neither will back down, so i am selling my pup now while she can still settle quickly into a new environment. Some dogs love others and some are perfectly happy being the centre of attention !
My eldest is only 10 mths though and she is picking up bad habits from the youngest............i think you need to judge your dog on how you think she will react.

Jo x, if I was yiur new pups breeder I would be most upset that your were planning to sell ehr rather than take her back to the breeder to find her a home they have selected for theri carefully bred pup.
I think most people would agree that the age gap between your pups is too small, and the older does not ahve the mental maturity to cope with anew puppy (think about it in the wild no pup would have to deal with puppies until it was over 12 months old, when it's parents bred again).
Keeping staffies together can often not be easy as they are quite feisty, especailly same sex, and I know that experienced owners and breeders rarely leave them alone together unsupervised.

Agree completely Brainless. I'm afraid from your first post a couple of weeks ago Jo, your other dog was too young and the age gap just wasn't great enough. The crystal ball was saying.....
PLEASE contact your pup's breeder. If they are a reputable breeder, rather than just producing pups to sell, they will want to rehome their puppy themselves.

This is the 10 week old puppy with the swollen stomach yes??

Hi there, i got her from a breeder who has now moved ...........she wasn't intrested about who i was or where her pup was going so i think i am much more capable of finding a new home for the little tyke!
I have tried but i think these two need seperate owners who can care for them as individuals , plus i will vet who ever gets her , i have already turned someone down as i didn't think they were was suitable .
I am very grateful for all your advice and support , however it wouldn't be right for either pup if they stayed as they wouldn't get the attention they need.
I was lucky as all my lot get on great even when I bring them to my mate's house and he has Staff bitch and a Pit/Pointer(choped).So that those be 5 dogs all happy to see and be in each other companies, but they have been brought up together,Thats 3 males:2 intact and one chopped and two intact females.Obivously when the bitchs come into season great care is take'n to devide the male's and keep them apart untill the bitchs season is well over.
