hi i am looking for some advice from those who show .....
i have previously thought about getting into showing but never got round to getting to ringcraft classes last year when we gor our 1st girl she is now 20months old i also have a neutered male nearly 4 years old and our new girl who is 6 1/2 months old
im not at all sure about showing ( im a scaredy cat when it comes to trying new things lol ) and may only be able to go to local or fairly local shows havent got a lot of spare ££ :-( but would it be worth while now after leaving it so long to start attending ringcragt are they too old or is it worth a go ?
thanks in advance for any help

I got into showing this year for the first time - wasn't sure about it - never even considered it after having dabbled in agility and a little obedience. Thought the show circuit a bit cliquey (sp?)
My dog was a year when we started at ringcraft and he has been easy to train - I think as long as you some basic obedience then you should be okay - take it slowly and make it rewarding. My little puppy is so wriggly that I would rather train an older dog for sure!
But it's been great fun and the people have been fantastic - I would have to say mainly helpful and so encouraging. When you do well they are so pleased.
My breeder found a breeder near me who then recommended a ringcraft and we never looked back. Nerves were high at my first show in May but we can 3rd out of 9 dogs. Then gone from strength to strength - we qualified for Crufts after our second champ show. We have had some 1st places too.
The companion shows are super fun and were great practice - we won a trophy at our local village show!
Go for it I say!
You should go for it. I think the more things you and your dogs can do the better.
Were you looking at showing all three? What breeds are they?
The best thing is to speak to the breeder where you got your two youngsters from. I always think this is the best place to start. If she shows she'll be able to pass on great tips to you.
Ringcraft is a good idea. They don't always know about certain breeds but the concept is generally the same. You will also get to meet other people that show and ask questions. Let us know what breeds you have and people will always give helpful advice on here.
My only warning is beware, you can get seriously hooked.

(she says modestly lol)
Kisska is my 1st Sibe she will always be my special girl
but i love them all to pieces though
whats your breed judging by the name is it cavaliers? lol
Michelle & gang xx
yep it is cavaliers . I am absolutely hooked on them now! thats why i cant help myself but get more and more and more! lol
If you show your boy you need to send a letter from your vet to the kennel club and you will need a letter from the kennel club giving you permission to show your dog which you then take to any show.
Being totally honest, neutered dogs generally will come last every time. Not being negative it's just the way it is.
I would concentrate on your other two bitches and maybe keep your boy and do some companion dog shows with him.

You don't need a letter from the vet there's a downloadable form on the Kennel Club Site
Print it off & fill it in & send it to the KC almost be return you will get a confirmation letter
I don't know how many neutered dogs you have shown but I know of several in different breeds that have done quite well
Thanks for correcting me Moonmaiden. I was going on what I had been told when I was looking to show my bitch after she'd been spayed but decided to stop showing her anyway.
I said generally neutered dogs don't get anywhere. I didn't say it was ALWAYS the case. You always have the odd one that does well under a fair judge. Same as saying the best dog always wins the class and showing isn't facey. I'm being honest and realistic. The showing game isn't always the fairest. A few people I know have neutered their dogs and gone from doing very well to getting binned. However one of the dogs was then handled again by a face and all of a sudden it was doing well again.
The main thing for the original poster is to get out there and enjoy.

Didn't start showing my Elka until she was nearly two years old. Ringcraft witll soon have you knowing what to do and after a little initial confusion she loved it.
Hi Michelle,
Its never too late to start. If your interested go for it. I decided to take the plunge last year, unfortunately because I didn't know anyone made a mistake with my first purchase of dog and have ended up with another pet, but I love him. Have now got a good quality pup which I have started Ringcraft with and have our first outing in November at a local show. Everyone at our local ringcraft and that I have met at North West Lab shows have been helpful, informative, friendly and most welcoming. And for that I would like to thank them all. I'll warn you though it is adictive!!! If you stick to local open shows the entrance fees are not too high, its only Champ Shows that are more costly. So If you have the passion for it go for it.
Here wishing you well. enjoy.

I saw a neutered dog win a class of 3 once - can't remember seeing them in the catalogue very often. Have just entered my boy in a show in December and will wait to get him done until after then - not that it'll make any different for him, he's always last, poor chap! :-)

Hi
I have a netured dog whom i show with good success most judges are fine about it. when you enter the ring you just need to tell the steward and show them the letter the kennel club will give you. The steward will then tell the judge!!
Hope this helps
