Buffy is definately about to do something, panting like mad and terribly restless, no contractions yet but she is doing this wierd twitching around the top of her head and ears, is this normal?

I'm not panicking really

You wont know for definate if its all over

I find the bitch will seem settled and content.
Feeding cleaning her pups and just seems finished.
Do keep your eye in her though, you could take her the vets to be examined to put your mind at rest :-)
Good luck with the pups
makes me all broody :-)
- By philippa [gb] Date 07.07.02 21:22 UTC
Hi there, if your bitch is quiet, content and settled the chances are it is all over. However, sometimes there can still be a puppy left behind.
I always take my bitch to the vets the following day for a post whelping check up, and the vet examines her then, and should be able to tell you that all the pups have been born. Did you see/count all the afterbirths? If not, dont worry. Tell your vets that you dont know if all the afterbirths were expelled, and he can give your girl an injection to make sure she has cleared out properly. Congratulations once again :)

I always call the vet out to the house once I think the bitch has finished, to check out Mum and pups and to give Mum an injection to ensure everything is clear. Much more expensive than taking them to the vets during the day but well worth it in my opinion.

We seem to be all finished at seven, 4 girls, 3 boys. Had a quiet night, all are feeding well and clean and tidy, Buffy's a great mum! I've got the vet coming out this morning but I spoke to the breeder she came from last night who advised taking her for a short walk and having a good feel while she was standing up and she seemed completely empty. All is peaceful for the moment! I'll put a photo on my web page if you want to admire :D

Big discovery, puppies are great time wasters! I did nothing in the house yesterday, just sat and watched them, fussed Buffy and took photos. And I'm totally exhausted! The only trouble with the books is that they are so full of the horrible things that can go wrong I'm constantly worrying about missing bottom holes, cleft palates, not eating/breathing/moving, whether Buffy is eating and drinking enough, if she's got a sore tongue/bum/teats, it's never ending :(. The vet gave everyone the all clear but I still have to check every five minutes, and get up in the night just in case. On the plus side they do make such lovely noises, like squeeky toys and are just sooo cute :D. Best of luck with yours, keep us posted,
