Sorry abouth the expletive (deleted) but why is it that the exhibitors of some breeds need to constantly cut fur off their dogs at shows. Not just cut it but leave it on the floor.
We have come back from a local open show and when the rings were opened for BIS the amount of poodle coat was unbelievable. I am not damning ALL poodle exhibitors nor singleing them out other than in this particular case.
But why does it need to be done at shows to such an extent that the floor is awash with trimiings.
Having a smooth coated breed I do not need to take much off at all and use a rubber mitt to take bits out at the show. I do appreciate some of the hairy dogs need 'tarting up' but why so much taken off AT the show??

One of my pet hates, it gets into my dogs paws and total ruins the way they move. Have got into the habit of checking their feet once in the ring but as you move up they pick up even more. And yes I don't know why more than a quick tidy is needed once at the show, if those who bathed before a show brought their bath and buckets it would soon be stopped, mind you I have seen warnings that you must not use the showers to bath your dog, so may be they do :) Jackie H

I can never understand that either, why they need to trim there dogs at the show, i always do buffy the night before then brush her up when i get there, at most open shows there isnt that much room and it is usaully clogged up with cages and trollys, why do most exhibitors feel the need to leave trimming there dog until they arrive at the show?

Hi Jackie, You think youve got problems!!!!! My wolfhounds try and pick it up and eat it while gaiting round the ring. I think that believe the fur is tiny little rabbits or something ;)

Oh yes, do that too and then choke and gag, and then everyone stares at you thinking you have brought a coughing dog to the show. Jackie H

Ditto, Elsa was in her first show today (just a local exemption!) but as the judge was looking at her, she was chewing over a mouthful of fur off the ground!

(she still managed 3rd best puppy, which we were pleased with as we only decided to show her an hour before, and hadn't groomed her today!)

Well done Emily and Elsa:D I went along to a GSD champ show today and it really p**sed me off to see that someone had let their dog poo over near the car parking area without cleaning it up where they wouldn't be caught:( After everyone else was sooo good too.

Thanks Kash! notice how I snuck that in??!! I would have been really cross at that too, especially when it was obviously so deliberate.

I do know what you all mean , i was at one of my first shows with my black newfy and we were in the ring about to start the class when a chap leaned over the barrier and asked me if i had checked my dog when i looked at the other side of him he was covered with white hair, not a good start!!
