Topic Dog Boards / General / Rover..
- By Cain [gb] Date 31.10.05 11:19 UTC
At the age of 37, I can well remember the name "Rover" being a generic name for a dog, suggesting that this was/is a common name for a canine.

However, in all my life, I HAVE never met a single dog called this..

Wonder how this came about.?

Just a bit of Monday fun :)

I've never met one either :)  You would think old fashioned names would come back into fashion periodically like human ones but I guess this one is just too naff for anybody :)

Never met a Fido either :)

Have met plenty of Rex's though, many years ago.

My nephew has called his springer Rolf - Rolfrolf for short :D

You say to him "what's your name" and - you've guessed it :D :D :D

HaHa, I have a Rover :D

My husband is a fan of British Cars (we are in Australia) and has always had BMC Cars.

We have Cooper (nearly 15 years old), Mini (8 years old) and Rover (3 years old)

The most used name I have come across is Bonnie :)  usually a Lab ;)  think it was a blue peter dog ?

.......

Yes I grew up with a Bonnie.....Labrador cross :)
I think the BP Bonnie was a Golden Retriever donated by the GDB I seem to remember and then had a litter for them.

Yes, you are right Isabel, it was A GR wasn't it.  I loved the blue peter dogs.

Do they still have them?  Haven't watched it for years!

I'm a bit old for it now :) Bonnie was more my era :D (well a bit before her really :o)  I think they have at least a couple of dogs, collies I think.  They look nice but I don't think I would find the modern presenters to my taste far too "jolly".  I prefered "big sisterly" Valerie and the like, even John Noakes was a wee bit skittish :D They calmed it right down again with Simon Groome before they all starting having babies and sniffing stuff :p

I wonder if there might be some more "Rovers" in the U.S. because of the space program?
