Sorry if this has been asked in the past but not sure if anything has changed.

As we have our first litter due next week, I'd like to arrange insurance for the pups when the new owners eventually take them home.  What do you advise?   Is it true that petplan now give a voucher for 6 weeks free insurance?

thanks - sarah

Hi Sarah;

I made enquiries re this to the Kennel Club when I first mated Phoebe and you get 6 weeks free health insurance when you register the pups.

Good luck with the puppies,  Phoebe's are due on Friday from 1st mating.

I'm getting very nervous; but everything is ready... Phoebe is plodding along with her massive stomach, she looks so tired and getting up is such an effort for her, she's having the pup's in my bedroom but I'm not sure she'll make it up the stairs as she's finding everything an effort even going for a short walk :-)  I might have to revise the birth plan to downstairs, I'm sure Phoebe will let me know where she want's to be when the time comes, good luck with your puppies - how many are you expecting - not you personally of course :-)

I hope I'm not expecting any puppies!!!!

She was scanned last week and told definitely 3, maybe 4 or could be more.   She's getting bigger by the day and is getting restless, finding it harder to settle.

We did think of putting her in our spare bedroom but thought it might be too much of an effort for her going up and down the stairs, so they are now going to virtually take over the dining room.

good luck - and keep us posted

PetPlan has changed a few times recently, but are now back to the breeder being able to register the pups for the free 6 weeks insurance, and you can do this by either phoning them OR doing it online, even the day before, which I found very handy. The KC does give their 6 weeks insurance as well, BUT that is depending on the new owner transferring the puppy to their name, and as we all know a lot of pet owners never do this, so if you use PetPlan at least you are CERTAIN the puppy is insured for 6 weeks from the moment it leaves your house.

Oh and I have to add, although it can take a while to mount up, I like the points you collect from PetPlan as well -you get some for each puppy or kitten registered with them, and more if the new owners take up a year's insurance. PetPlan has paid for both my DVD player and my Freeview box, LOL!!! :D
