Saw an ad in my local paper shop last night.  Pap/Chi pups - it says "1st cross" and you wouldnt belive the price of them.  What is it with people who think they are creating a new breed!!!!

I saw a similar advert once- cant remember the breeds but it said both parents 100% pedigree- but two different breeds! they cost as much as a pedigree puppy too

You could say I own one of those dogs - Utonagan. I think some of the criticism from people is valid but not all. We chose this breed because we wanted some of the attributes of the 'husky' but not all. He's still only young but so far has not disappointed. I hear what you say about price. I worry about 'designer' dogs anyway for a lot of reasons like many other people.
Regards

The difference between the Utonagan and these vague designer breeds is that your breed council is doing everything it can to get the breed recognised as a breed.  You are breeding to type, you do not sell indiscriminately to anyone ( I know because I have researched and like the look of the dog very much).  Owners are vetted with care (I can vouch for that too).  It is a dog I desperately wanted at one time but it didn't fit in with my partners plans and we have other breeds now.

I wish you luck with your venture, dont give up trying.

There's 3 Utonagans at one of the training clubs I go to, and I have to say I am not impressed. I would never even have guessed they were meant to be the same breed. They are of 3 different colours, 3 different sizes, 2 different coat types, 2 different body types...........

One also came to my Club last year, though there again where they were bought from didn't seem extremely reputable she was very cute but lasted for about 3 weeks in her home!

The same person wanted one of my breed and I said no way.  It's good to say that those who breed along with the Club do all that they can in their power to ensure good homes, but there are some people who don't sadly.

Oh by the way spanishwaterdog, been meaning to tell you we also have a lovely SWD come to our club. :) I think of you every time I see him and wonder if you might even be the breeder -who knows!

I agree with you on that score Goldmali. We love our pup to bits & luckily he does meet the breed standard (so far!) but there are dogs out there that look like any old xbreed you would find in a rescue shelter, unfortunately. By the way, 3 in your training club - I wish I could find 1 other local owner so if anyone's in the north east of england I'd love to hear from you

Just searched the web for what a Utonagan looks like as I'd never heard of them before - and I must say I think they're a beautiful breed - obviously not as beautiful as my Phoebe's breed though :-)
