On our local news lasning was the story of a Yorkshire Terrier. A gang of yobs tied fireworks to it.
They filmed it on their phones. The dog had just been hit by a car so its not sure if the car killed it or fireworks.
Im sick of hearing stories where violence as been filmed on phones.
Who else thinks ita about time these phones were banned. Its just another sick idea for sick people.
I do hope the car killed the poor little dog. To suffer once is bad but to be tortured after being in such a state to begin with is too bad to even think about.

I was having this discussion the other day and we came up with mobiles have alot to answer for but not to blame. It's the people who use them :(
Now I have a camera phone and it records sound although not movement. I use my sensible and for a civilised laugh (like recording my god father snoring when he fell asleep on the sofa!!!!) The camera takes pictures of the dogs mainly!
If they do get banned though you can pick up video recorders so cheeply now :( I don't think it will stop this "happy slapping" going extream.
It's the people who do this who should be banned!
Yes this is sickening, but banning the phones is hardly the answer. I just hope that the film is admissable as evidence when these 'yobs' are prosicuted and hopeflly put away. Although I have a sneeking feeling that they will get no more than a few hours community service :(

You can't put the blame on a mobile phone for that. Cruelty and sickening acts like that one went on long before mobile phones were invented and will unfortunately continue long after they have been superceded.
If I thought that banning mobile phones would stop all cruelty to animals then I'd be the first to put mine in the bin :)

Omg i wish i hadnt read this post :( that poor dog!

It is terrible and it is sickening but it made the news because of the nature of the crime. What you are unlikely to hear about is the good that the mobiles can be used for. You have a cost benefit situation to think about. Imagine for example you just saw what had happened to that dog and was able to film the people who had done it and take it to the police.
I can remember fireworks being used to torture animals long before the mobile phone was even invented so banning the phones will not stop these type of people.

Don't know about mobiles, but I would certainly like to see fireworks banned. It disgusts me that shops are more interested in making a profit than the implications for the safety of the local community. Every year there are awful stories of (increasingly deliberate) incidents with fireworks. They wouldn't sell other goods that are so dangerous, presumably because of fear of being sued, so why sell fireworks? And the legislation the government bought in last year (?) seems to have had no impact at all, mainly because the kind of people who were creating a nuisance of themselves with fireworks have no respect for the law anyway.
I think mobiles are nothing to do with it except a recent addition and to be honest your story is quite mild compared to on the ground common reallity. Dogs are in their darkest age for probably 150 years or so, maybe ever, especially with modern communications and personal economy. The most popular breed is bred for killing other dogs, surely if that is not a statement of majority national atitude what is? and a whole range of new and mixed breeds specificaly bred for tearing each other apart. This firework story is mild, no one cares or they would have pressure groups, non, so why worry, just watch the patterns natural growth.
I know its not mobiles to blame. The only blame should lie with the people who do it.
Its just I feel some of the things they are filming only happen for something to be filmed.
You know I wonder if the lads who set that poor man on fire would have done it if they didnt have the phone to film it on.
And yes I hope the filming can be used to help catch these yobs. But as already said I wonder what the punishment will be.

Mobile phones do not cause these acts, only people do, and they would do it whether the technology is in place or not.
Personally I would ban people, they are after all the cause of 99.9% of accidents, crime, cruelty etc and then we would have nothing to complain about and nobody to complain

I could start a list :D :D
How awful, thats just shocking. The way people can not only treat animals, but humans as well, is just awful. Will the world not get any better!
Rachel

Of course the world will get better - once humans have obliterated themselves :D

Sicko's are sicko's are sicko's, the phone is just another tool they are misusing. If I had my way I would whack up another 50 prisons give all wrong doers PROPER sentences, and maybe make this a better world for people and animals alike. :-) But I guess that is just a fantasy world as we all have to bend to the minority groupsl :-( I pray that little dog was already dead.
Poor dog :-(
It's kids like that who give us teenagers names like yob's.. The amount of times people cross the street etc when my and my friends are walking is amazing. We arn't all sick like them :-(
The people who did this deserve worse than what they did to that defenceless soul
