And no puppies :( Though my vet has offered a free scan next week because she said it can take upto a week for the sperm to reach the egg! I had a gut feeling that she wasnt pregnant too and its been confirmed today. Im a bit disappointed but nevermind, at least i still have my girl all healthy :)

Sorry to hear that. I know you said to me you had a feeling that she wasn't pregnant but none the less it is still disappointing. At least she's still fit and healthy and she can have fun trying again (and your christmas won't be too hectic!)
sarah

Since bringing her back i have checked her over and noticed a discharge which is light brown in colour, is this normal and is she pregnant? She has also been sick 4 times in the past 9 days. Is it normal for her discharge to be this colour? And if she isnt pregnant, why is she getting discharge? Ive looked in The Book of the Bitch and im none the wiser! Help someone?

Anybody? :(

Hi, she's not suspected of having pyometra is she?? Common for there to be an infection post mating?? Also, before you mate her next time I would have her swabbed to see if any infection or virus present? All the best, Dawn

Hi, my girl had this happen earlier in the year she was showing all the signs of pregnancy...off her food, being sick, discharge etc, it turned out to be a phantom pregnancy, it lasted over 10 weeks and she even had milk, bless her. It is horrible to see them go through this. I would go back for another scan though its not unknown for a vet to scan and get it wrong. Hope all is ok x

THanks, i dont think she has pyometra, the discharge is quite clear with a tint of brown in it, it isnt smelly or thick and she seems normal and well in herself. I am going to see how she is in the morning and if anything worries me i am going to take her to the vets. I really hope she's going to be ok, i cant stop worrying over her though. She didnt have discharge yesterday so if it is an infection its only the early stages. I will just have to see how things go. Thanks everyone x

Hi Minniedog,
How's your girl today?
sarah

Hi Sarah, thanks for asking! Since that day that i saw the discharge, well the day after that, she had none at all, so i have no idea what happened there. Shes never had a phantom pregnancy before but i suppose there is a first for everything. Im still going to take her for the free scan on Friday though just in case. How is your girl? :)

You can't help but worry about them can you? I was really worried that willow was getting a pyro when we first mated her as she was drinking more than usual. Then I thought she may be having a phantom. It's only now that I've really stopped worrying and looking forward to her having pups. But then, of course, the panic will set in as she starts giving birth! She has 2 weeks to go and getting bigger the day. When she sits down her belly flops on the floor. She's got a lot quieter (quite nice actually), but she's not off her food, not been sick, and no noticeable discharge, although she does seem to keep herself pretty clean. Wishing you well for friday.

Hi
My first bitch when I mated her after 2-3 weeks showed a brown discharge. She had 8 pups inside her, and when I contacted the vet in a panic, he said not to worry as sometimes the body looses what is abnormal. I dont know only what he told me that day.
You have to be careful of pyo this usuall presents itself 4 weeks after a season.
Did you have your bitch scanned too early ?
I had this lady that came to my door, brilliant :-)
Scanned my bitch in the home, and no upset in having to take her a long way. Of course you have to pay mileage but it was worth it. As I knew then how many pups were inside, as my own vet will only say 2-3 pups.

Hi Silverdog. She was mated on 27th September, which made her scan day, day 31 which isnt too early but the vet said it could have taken upto a week for her to get pregnant thats why she offered a free scan next week. She still hasnt had anymore discharge either. I still dont think shes pregnant either, but im still going to take her for the scan just in case x Sarah, glad your girl is doing well x :)
Hi minidog, Sorry not brilliant with names here as I dont
get the chance to post that often.
I hope all works out well for you. I think my girl was scanned
at 33 days. The lady would not come before.
Thats good the vet has offered you a free scan next week, as she
cant be fairer than that.
Dogs are funny things. My mother breeds a different breed to me, and this is
going back years. I went with my mum to the vets, and the vet said her bitch was not in pup, but if she was she would only have 3. She offered a scan and we said well as the bitch was 6 weeks anyway, we only had a little more time to see any how. I said, she is awful fat, and to me she is very pregant. I thought okay proably 3-4 puppies. The day she whelped we both nearly died with shock she whelped 10 puppies.
Dogs never cease to amaze do they :-)
