I have never had a cavalier bitch and i am definately considering buying one so i can show her and maybe even breed from her. I know alot about male cavaliers and breeding, showing etc. my dogs have not been castrated because they are show dogs so how often does the bitch have her season so i would know when to seperate them? i would appreciate your replies
Thankyou

The books generally say roughly every 6 months, but that can mean anything between every 4 months and every 12 months - it varies from bitch to bitch. As you show your boys I assume you know all about picking a healthy one from good stock! Find out what sort of cycle the puppy's mum has, as that may give some slight clues. You may find the boys start fighting as the bitch matures, even before she comes in - that happened with my two boys when I got a girl. You will probably have to wait for a show quality bitch though - I was very lucky with mine, but a lot of people have their names on lists for 18 months or more, particularly if they have a preference for colour! :-)
i think it would be a good idea to get a girl! thankyou for the good advice i reaaly needed it

'The Book of the Bitch' is a must-have for anyone who owns or plans to own a bitch, whether you intend to breed or not. You can get it from

Yes, absolutely - I've read it several times and my puppy hasn't even had a season yet! Also you might want to buy a few specialist Cavalier books like the one by Sheila Smith.
