Well - The poor staffy has become a CHAV dog IMO :D If you see one of those Vicky Pollard types pushing a pram and smoking a fag either she or her chav bloke will have a staffy on the end of lots of brass harness.

Who definately wont comment further through fear of offence :D
I've got a Golden Retriever - apparently they are the most popular dogs with bachelors! I must agree I was a bachelor and my little fella helped me to win my better half. Think she fell for him and then realised that I came as part of the package! (Something I think she is still coming to terms with!!)
It's funny though we've got a Whippet X now, we rescued her, and it is comical - we can guess when people walk towards us which dog they are going to give attention to.
Without trying to cause a riot - you tend to find the older folk, and chavs give the Whippet X attention, and the more "upper class" type folk go for the Golden.

No Labs are as had two who bounded into my now husbands house before I had even had the chance with their paws under the table :D :D

i have to agree with rozzer about the chav and staffy comment!
Bull Terrier...gay fellas who don them in studded collars if not thick leather harnesses....maybe a pick Tu-Tu for the girls :D
Cockers...women who speak proper (not common like moi), and who wear knee length tweed skirts and totter in high heels
Airedale.....much like the above
Bulldog...short fat balding man with a beer pickled hard belly, who have 'LOVE HATE' tattooed on their knuckles, with jeans that sit too low exposing their none too pretty spotty builders bum....
Shepherds.....young lads who are "well 'ard", calling their dog 'Sabre' in public, 'Fluffy' in private....
not quite sure about the rest!

(have i offended anyone?????)
My husband likes to tell me when he gets chatted up when walking our golden. Girls always make a bee line for him ( the dog that is). He loves it as much as my husbands ego :)

Great Dane: yep me! comatose but has that dash and dare when needed but not until pushed.

There are quite a few cockers around here and none that belong to anyone who is posh. We only have psuedo posh here :D They all look gorgeous though, the dogs not the owners. Can't agree onthe GSD owners either. Seen 3 recently, 1 with young children on the park and 2 with 20-30ish aged couples who looked very respectable and so did their dogs.
My best friend is a straight single chap. He's a vet and although he loves Cashie and pays him lots of attention when you've spent 11 hours with animals sometimes you want a bit of a break when you come home. However, it's very strange, but as soon as the sun comes out, my friend suddenly becomes very eager to take Cashie to the park! He assures me that this has nothing to do with the fact that girls fuss over Cashie and want to talk to my friend. He wouldn't lie to me, would he? :-)
I quite enjoy trying to match dogs and owners although I'm often way off the mark. This is a sweeping generalisation
Staffies - usually owned by real chavs. Never seen in a collar weighing fewer than five kilos. The owner's jewellery probably weighs considerably more.
Labs - Suburban couples who consider this the next logical step after 2.4 children and a 4 wheel drive.
Bulldogs - tattooed middle-aged men who call all women darlin' or sweetheart, and spend their Friday nights sinking ten pints of lager before performing a karaoke version of "Rocking All Over The World".
Border collies (in London) - owned by people who either have an incredible amount of spare time or who need their heads examined. IMHO, these dogs are very rarely happy when kept in a city.
Weimeraners - the owners are usually really nice people but rarely do much research and are totally unprepared for a Weim and everything that owning one entails. This could also apply to Dalmatians.
Finally, whippets - their owners don't bother with a lead, preferring a scabby piece of string. They wear flat caps and usually have a ferret or two down their trousers. They spend most of their time drinking cider and discussing butter. ;-) Of course not, whippet owners are all fabulous! :-) A client of mine who is a very well known fashion designer has a lovely whippet, and whats-her-name, the thin one from What Not To Wear has one too so I'm hoping they're developing a more up-market image!
Sorry, this makes me laugh
"Cockers...women who speak proper (not common like moi), and who wear knee length tweed skirts and totter in high heels"
my cockers are: mind of their own, very stubborn and muddy (which describe me as I was as a 5 year old).
I always think of cockers as being hooligans in cute clothing

>Labs - Suburban couples who consider this the next logical step after 2.4 children and a 4 wheel drive.
lol Mary-Caroline....not in this house. :P definately Wellies, Clarts and Calamities :D Labs came before the kids, but have now given way to the 4WD in preference to the Skoda (Lab Lugger) :).... Only because I have to now, only been here 3 weeks and have been stranded twice

;) So, back to the Subaru legacy
We used to have a bulldog (rescue) - beautiful dog, lovely temperament, and no, my husband is not a short fat balding man with a beer pickled hard belly, who have 'LOVE HATE' tattooed on their knuckles, with jeans that sit too low exposing their none too pretty spotty builders bum :) He is a hard working business man, yes he wears jeans and t-shirts but always looks smart, however he is a body builder so I suppose that could be another stereotype LOL :D
Oh, and he doesn't drink, eat curry or spend any nights down the pub ;)

It never fails to make me smile when I see some tart who's decked his little staffie out in a gladiator costume that Russell Crow or Brad Pitt would have been proud of. :D
God only knows what my breeds say about me. Shar-Pei and Tibetan Mastiffs. The many shar-pei people I know are the most mixed bunch of characters with seemingly nothing in common other than the breed they own. It's impossible to draw a stereotype. And the TM people - hell I don't know enough other TM owners to make a judgement!
newfoundland - dark shaggy unkept hair, tendancy to drool, lazy, a bit dim, with a big wobbly bum. Oh my!!........It's me :D :D :D

LOL @ Tippytoes :D :D Sounds like we were separated at birth!! :D
Well i know a very posh lady , who owns a staff, and non of my stafford friends are 'chavs' !

Surely that cant be any worse than someone buying a toy breed and feeling the need to keep dressing it up in clothes !!!

guys, its supposed to be light humour, dont take it personally and get defensive :)
My staffie is very like me and I am not a CHAV. He is somewhat lazy, doesn't like going for a walk in the rain and likes a cuddle. My hubby wanted to get him a studded collar and I said that if he did, we would be in divoice court.......

My dog is nothing like me to look at she is slim and has short straight hair and long legs :D She does have some of my other 'qualities' though. She keeps on and on until she gets her own way, she is stubborn, she grumbles when being made to do something she doesn't like yet she is a softie and very tolerant (last night my son pushed her slowly out of her bed onto the floor and she remained in exactly the same position without moving a muscle and didn't even complain). she is nosy and likes to know what's going on outside in the street. She's cautious of those she doesn't know but once accepted she will give you a warm welcome. :)
I suppose I ought to admit we both like our kip in bed :)

Why not read why people choose the dogs they do by Stanley Coren, it is quite interesting although I would suggest it is, like another post on here, a rather sweeping generalisation and there are some differences in some breeds characteristics it would appear between the UK and the US!
what a fantastic post!!!!!!!!!!!!
such a breath of fresh air.
it had me chuckling for ages
one thing though.....i have siberian huskies....what does that say about me?????????????
dont worry about offending me i dont get upset easily

I would say it shows that you have a slight penchant for the unusual..
Glad you enjoyed the post :)

Cockers are definitely hooligans in cute clothing, at least my Yankee is!! And my Cavs aren't much better - hooligans disguised as aristocratic looking dogs! :-D

My atypical Lab is not the usual outgoing, lick 'em to death sort. She's timid with strangers, does not like rough housing, yet is playful with dogs and people she knows well. My mother says she is just like me.
My dog is very like me :D
Lazy :O ,
Moody

,
weary of strangers

,
Nosey ;-) ,
Allways asking for food (both our fave is macaroni cheese) ,
Both prefer eachothers species :D ,
Both of us should really be blonde (even though he's a golden but shh LOL :D ),
And if i carry on eating all them macaroni cheeses (YUMMMMMMMMMMMM) i shall soon be podgey like him too!

I guess goldens fit my personality. I'm quite outgoing and sport-y , although i do have a bad temper.
I wasn't aware goldens are supposed to be bad tempered :)

Ment i have a bad temper which contradicts the fact my personality does not really reflect my dogs
I see, scary how text can be misread, i re read the sentence a second and it read differently, a lesson learned :).

I have to agree that my dog is like me - he's a westie
He's very small
He hates kids screaming
He loves chicken
He likes his walks but is always happy to go home and laze around and watch a nice dvd
he loves his bed (sorry my bed) - OK our bed!
he loves to be clean and have a bath!
he hates the rain and walks round puddles!! (I know he's a 1-off for this)
the only difference is he's very hairy, has a big black nose and big ears!
G xx
PS I am curious to know of people's perceptions of a westie owner!

I have two rotties , my boy is grumpy , like my husband . My girl is always on the go , and a bit mad , just like me . I also would be interested in peoples perceptions of a rottie owner . Just to say a great post !

My eldest Beardie is MUCH nicer natured than me :D
