Does anyone there do Agility or done Agility?

I've not done it competitively, but I have attended agility classes. First about 20 years ago with my first dog, a collie x retriever - she was really good and the class trainer encouraged me to compete with her, but I didn't have the time or transport. Also a couple of years back with a friend's shar-pei - he was great fun. Very accurate but probably a little slow to compete. I'm sure we could have progressed, but I was more interested in having fun than competing seriously.

It's a great way to have fun and bond with your dog. I wouldn't recomend doing too much with a puppy under 12 months and it really helps to have done some basic obedience work first. It's more fun if you do it in a class situation and is pretty essential if you plan to compete to get your dog used to working with distractions.

I do agility with my boxed dog! he  good but keeps running to his mum. or other way round! I'm going to do it with my puppy. we train with Kingdom of fife dog agility club would you say agility has changed alot since u done? We have some one in our club who was really nice but when she started competing she just turned!!

Does anyone do agility with Utonagan? Our boy is still a pup but when he's older I would like to give it a try.He loves to be occupied & is very intelligent.

Nope but it is very popular among Norwegian Elkhound owners in the USA (In fact the top Agility dog all breeds when it first became a competitive sport there was a Norwegian Elkhound bitch) and a freind here has doen well with her Elkhound bgoys, father is now retured and soen is competing.  Her daughter competes with papilons and uses the Elkhounds with them in the Mini Maxi pairs as well as workign the Elkhounds for her Mum.

Used to do agility with my Boxers and then Beardies. In fact I was a founder member of Kingdom of Fife and one of the trainers for years.Tell Len and Anne I asked for them :D

i do agility with a rottie, chinese crested, border collie and a english bull terrier who is just starting to train now.
i have had a good season this being my first year competing.

I do agility with my two (Aussie and mongrel) :) Only for fun, although I could compete at a low level with them I'm sure. We have such fun at our club, nobody wants anyone there who takes it too seriously :D :D Long may it last :D

I do it with my boxer i also have a collie pup and my collie loves being there, & my boxer is really good he fast but stupid

I compete at a low level, but I'm very happy there as I have a pup so if I win out of Elmentary and Starters I'll have to enter Dash (my collie pup) in at novice and that's not fair on him, maybe when I've been in for a bit longer that will be fine. who knows.

I do agility with my Westie at Ribble, and we've just entered our first show in December :) There's a woman where we train that does it with a couple of her Utonagans, they certainly seem to enjoy it.

Just wondering which show you've entered in December.  It's not Wyre, is it?  Only ask as I've entered that one with my beagle.

Actually yes it is Wyre -  as I thought I'd go somewhere local for the first show and Myercough is only 20 minutues away :) So please be sympathetic if you see a teenager struggling along with a Westie XD

Good luck Karen - enjoy your first show.   I'll luck out for you - I'll be in the mini class with my beagle, Bonnie.  Although I live in Leics I've got some friends from the Lakes who are coming with the beagle so am coming to support them.

How old does the dog have to be to start agility classes? I'm told our pup will be about 18 months old before he's fully matured (large breed) so do we need to wait until after that?

Sounds about right - although they might let you take him a bit earlier just to get used to the place and maybe do the tunnel and a couple of very low level 'jumps' (just a couple of inches- if they have them :) )

A large breed needs to be at least 15 months before they can start proper training. I do agility with a collie, a retriever and a springer and started competing this year. Its so addictive!

Tried it with my Yankee - he loved the jumps and tunnels, but went off the A frame, then all the Border collies decided they hated him, so we spent all the lesson hiding from the other dogs or refusing the A frame, so gave up. I miss it though!

We do a lot of the shows with our munsterlanders and think we have seen you at the shows. do you share your boxer with you mum?  Have i got the right person as I am sure your boxers name was Sam, brindle isn't he/ you were on ring duty with Caroline and Laura at the August show.

You should have not quitted. My Boxer was picked on, even got in a fight,still do it...HAPPY AS LARRY!!(Even if the Collies dont like him!!)

well eathier website yor my dogs. he's really good but at comp's he run's out to find my mum or if my mum is runing he comes to find me we have tried hiding and tried not hiding! any tips?

Can't give you any ideas re agility as my dogs only did it for fun being sheep working bred they used to try herding the equipment :D

Re the website Our club has a page for the training times etc, one for our show, one for the breed rescue(we're a BAGSD branch)we support & a gallery from the shows with results etc

It has personalised backgrounds & graffix(lol for some reason my brand new swf links haven't been working for me but do for others) added a bit of turn offable music. & a page of links to related sites like ObUK Agilty etc

It's a lot like my dogs site that is on my profile & on the links page of my dogs site there's one to the club one

Once the judges for our show are sorted I put a link on to the schedule & entry form & list of judges etc for the show

I do agility.  Am rather addicted to be honest.  I have been doing it for nearly 13 years.  I compete nearly every weekend throughout the summer.  I train a couple of times a week and then teach once a week.  I run my dog at Advanced (championship) level and have qualified for Crufts and Olympia.  I also judge,  so you could say I have been bitten by the bug!

well and truly bitten.  I bet agility has changed a bit over the years hasn't it?   Where about do you train/compete, slobdog?

Oh yes, very bitten!  I guess it has changed, some things for the better and somethings worse.  There a few major changes about to happen with all the jump heighs and dog heights changing next year and then they are trying to re-categorize the classes for 2007.  I train in Kent but compete anywhere in the country!  I am mad enough to go to Lancashire for the day (only a 5 hour journey!)

and I thought I was mad travelling up to Lancashire from Leicester for a show in December.  Must admit, I only started agility thinking it would be fun for the dog, but this year, being my 3rd with my oldest dog, I've done more shows than ever and hopefully will do next year (still is fun by the way).   It is definitely addictive and we must be mad getting up in the middle of the night (trying not to wake OH who is happily snoring still in a warm bed) to spend a day in a sometimes freezing riding school.  But, it is rewarding knowing that your dog trusts you enough to really try their best for you and the bond between you and your pet makes it all worthwhile.

I did agility years ago with a papillon - competed every week (and qualified for Crufts the first year it was there).  Got a new (papillon) puppy this year and he's just started agility now.  He loves it - after all life is just one big game!  He's too young to compete for ages yet and I don't intend to let it take over my life again, but I am looking forward to trying him at some local(ish) shows when he's old enough.  My daughter is also doing agility with her whippet but I don't think he'll ever be competitive!!  Well, that's a hound for you - and she knew it when she got him!

I was just wondering if someone could recommend a club where i could take my dog to learn agility. He is 16 months old and i live near Blackpool. I have been in contact with a club taht trains at myerscough as that is where i go to college however there waiting list is currently over two years and ideally i would like to start sooner rather than later. I am really looking to do it for fun with the hope of entering a few competitions if he gets good enough. Also would like a club that doesn't mind taking on any breed of dog as he is a standard poodle and when we looked for a flyball club a few weren't interested in him as he wasn't a collie. He is currently competing in startd competitions at flyball with a view to strarting sanctioned competitions when he is 18 months old but i would prefer to do agility as that has more variety.

Have you tried looking on www.agilitynet.com at there is a list of clubs on there. Generally agility clubs don't mind what breed you dog is.

Hi.......I used to do agility with my border collie Skye however she passed away in March this year. I really miss doing agility and miss all my doggie friends.  I no longer have a dog but my husband and I are looking round at the moment for a border collie puppy.......so I can return to the world of agilty and dog loving.  I live in Glasgow - Sam - or anyone do you know of anyone in your club that is breeding or due to breed in the near future ?

Chris Parks dog is in seasson but not sure if he is taking a litter this time round or waiting to next time, Alison Lochead dog had a litter eariler this year, so she might take another littler into next year. I don't Know anyone eles, I'll post a post on My Forum for you and see if anyone eles know anyone eles, <- thats a toung twister hahaha, PM me if you would liek any more information
