I was watching one of these programmes yesterday (after returning home from Mid counties) and there was a pit bull that had choked to death as it's chain had tangled up - poor thing, you saw the officer put it in a sack etc whilst its friend (poss a lab) watched on and tried to follow them both out but they had to leave him there as he was not chained up - well I was upset, not crying but the usual 'oh poor babies', 'what ba*t**ds!' comments when my OH questioned WHY I watch these programmes and said do I get a sick kick out of watching it??  Obviously not but it did make me think! I thought I like to watch it because it's interesting to see how the animal cruelty is dealt with in the US and also a lot of the animals end up with new fab homes, however yesterday proved this was not the case.

Does anyone else watch them; am I weird and what are your reasons for watching it?

Yours........ Questioning her sanity

I love watching the animal channel especially animal cops, i watch for the happy endings and also because it's nice to see how seriously the americans take animal cruelty i don't think you are wierd at all.

Yeah that's pretty much why I watch it, sometimes there is no happy ending but normally the animals find great new homes and the owners prosecuted - seems better than our current system, they can at least arrest people!

Phew, glad im not strange, maybe he is far to narrow minded :D

not weird at all

i love watching animal planet too especially miami animal police and animal cops etc

yes a lot of the stories break my heart & reduce me to a blubbering mess :-(

but as the others have said there are a lot of happy endings, loving new homes being found for the abused animals and best of all when they have enough evidence to take the owners to court and they get a result :-D

the officers obvioulsy care deeply for animals and try thier hardest to do what they can for them to make sure they dont ever get treated the same again!

I used to watch them but I dont know whats happened to me I cant watch them any more.  I get a sense of frustration that doesnt go away for ages and im left feeling all anxious.  The happy ending are amazing and lovely but I cant take the chance of watching incase there isnt one. :-(   I think deep down I feel I should be doing more work to stop cruelty myself i.e. voluntery work.  Just got a dog from rescue and the woman that runs it is amazing shes called catherine and aswell as holding down a full time job she rehomes hundreds of dogs in her spare time.  Now that warms my heart :-)  But in her course of work she probably sees alot of cruelty and I think my faith in humans would be zilch.
