Topic Dog Boards / General / Border Terrier Question

Hi

Just a general wonderment I thought someone might be able to help me out with.

Not that it's a problem (actually I feel rather lucky) but my border terrier never needs stripping - in fact he looks like he has been stripped all the time (I get loads of compliments about him looking so smart!)

He is 3 years now, will this ever change?

Is this common?

Mine is definitely not like that!  He has to be stripped at least twice a year and when he goes in he is extremely woolly.  It'll save you some money though and I always think Borders look so nice when they've just been to the groomers :)

Some breeders do try to aim for coats that do not need much work - I know it was one of the aims of the breeder we bought Bridget from.

I must have just lucked out then!

I bought him from someone that didn't want him (actually she didn't think he would be any good for showing!)

But at least he makes a great pet for me!

It is very unusual but does occasionally occur.

Not what I would want to be breeding though as these type of coats tend to be single coated instead of having an good undercoat.

Certainly don't think its something that should be being bred for, you would be changing the breed standard of your breed if you did.
