Hi there,

I recently had two of my bitches spayed (weeks apart so that I only had one recuperating at a time). My advice is to most definitely ensure your spayed bitch has her own secluded area where your other dog cannot "pester" her. I used a covered crate on both occassions. This allows them to feel safe and able to sleep and relax (thus helping the healing process). My first bitch was rather tender and relieved to have her crate as a place to recuperate. The second bitch "pinged" back to life 2 hours after surgery and I needed the crate to stop her leaping all over the place! lol
The stitches are in for at least 10 days, during which time normal activity is restricted. That is, no jumping, or running off lead. For the first 4 days, my bitches were only toileted in the back garden. Thereafter they were allowed limited lead exercise 3 times a day. I didn't allow my bitches to play with the other dogs until the stitches were removed. During the later part of their recuperation, I had to entertain them with kongs stuffed with goodies to stop them being bored senseless!
I wouldn't normally recommend a crate for such long periods of time but post-surgery is another matter. With my Border Collies, I sometimes have to insist (despite their soulful eyes and gentle nudging of a tennis ball) that they WILL relax and allow their body to heal :D
Hope this helps
xxxx

thanks 4 your reply, i will be getting the crate back out so libbi can have time 2 rest ( well i hope she does she is so lively it will be hard) when we had molly done she was quite for a few days but then was back to her normal self is so hard to keep them quite. as libbi is having her claws removed aswell and will have them bandged up for 4 day's it will probably be best to keep them apart at bedtime just encase molly decides to take her bandages of for her (ha ha).
