Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Has naturediet changed their recipe????
- By S4MBO [gb] Date 23.10.05 11:08 UTC
We recently bought our usual 2 x trays of naturediet 'Chicken flavour' the thing is.....

1, It smells different.
2, It looks a different color.
3, The texture/density is different.

Has anyone else experianced this with same flavour or any of the others???

No problems here, apart from trying to find a store that has stock!  Apparently Naturediet have moved their manufacturing facilities and had a few problems in the change over - hence very limited stocks briefly when I went looking last weekend.

They are normally very hot on customer service, so I'd email or phone them and see if they know what's happened.

I also noticed the food is alot drier than normal, its usually nice and juicy!

I've not noticed any change.. Although I am coming to the end of my current supply and am waiting on the new lot being delivered so you never know!

we get our's from pets at home, chicken is normally his fave, but he won't touch this new stuff it smells like cheap potted meat and i mean cheap!!!!

If they changed the ingredients they would have had to change the labels - which they have not done.  I haven't noticed any difference in Naturediet.

(My dogs would be thrilled to tuck into some "cheap" potted meat!)

I've only ever had one chicken one like that- I assumed it had gone off!  I informed Naturediet and they reimbursed me promptly.

As digger mentioned they did change factories but I contacted them iin the summer as I was struggling to get the sensitive gold. They said they had had some problems as were contrating on the most popular ones. Maybe this porb has now filtered down to the consumer.

They've changed the type of rice they're using. We got a phone call from a friend who is manager of our local pet supermarket last week. She knows the problems we had with finding a food suitable for our dog so called to say that another customer whose dog is feed solely on naturediet had phoned naturediet after the dog had began doing continuous runny poos, and they said that they'd changed to a different rice. We've now moved on to the new batch (we buy direct in bulk too) and for the first day or so I thought our boy was fine, but now he's doing mucusy poos again. Seems bizarre to me.

Zarah,

Using a different rice would not change anything.

Sometimes is just tough to figure out what the cause is of sudden digestive problems.  If you have been feeding the same brand of food, it's more likely to have been caused by something the dog ate or drank in the garden (like from a puddle), or on a walk, or found whilst sniffing for crumbs around the rubbish bin.

For any problem that does not clear up permanently in a few days, best to take a stool sample to the vet and have them check for bugs like giardia.

well ive been in touch with emily/amelie @ naturediet she was really helpfull she asked me to describe the problem so i did, she seemed to think it was a contaminated batch. And told me there would be a courier round on tuesday to collect the remains of the 2 cases and deliver 2 new ones, i explained also that for some reason tye would not touch any of this batch he wont even go near his bowl.... which is v strange he normally wallopps it.

SHE ALSO TOLD ME IF ANY ONE HAS GOT ANY PROBS WITH THE FOOD OR QUESTIONS REGARDING SUPPLIERS/AVAILABILTY
DO NOT HESITATE TO GET IN TOUCH THE NUMBER TO RING IS ON THE FRONT OF THE POUCH..

Im so glad I had read this. I have logged on to post about my dog who keeps pooing.....lots! He has also done lots of runny poos and I know that he has not drank from puddles or eaten anything iffy. I was just going to scan other peoples posts before posting my own and found this!

Mine is fed solely on ND and my hubby has suggested that perhaps we had a dodgy batch but I dismissed that as I have to say I hadnt really noticed anything different about the food other than being a bit drier. Although he has had the runs he hasnt been poorly. This may explain it so I will get on the phone. Seems odd that many people have had the same problem....

I too spoke with amilee yesterday and she confirmed that they had changed the rice from half grain to whole grain but that they had had a very rich smelly batch of tripe in. This ties in beautifully with our situation as we normally feed the plain chicken and the chicken and tripe but couldnt get hold of the plain chicken this time. Therefore he has had more tripe than normal. I have tried him on the fish and rice for the last few days and his poo has returned to normal so I think thats what it must have been.

Im really glad this thread started! I had never thought of bulk buying direct.. what a good idea... especially as Im having horrendous probs finding my Sibes favourite!

Anyone in Surrey area know of anywhere that has in stock the Fish variety its in the blue pouch (all other flavours I can get but this one is his FAVOURITE and i cant find it for love nor money at the moment!!)
Help! :) I'll drive any distance to get it!!! in the mean time... but frm now on think I'll def. be buying direct :)
- By Bubbles17 [gb] Date 07.11.05 13:32 UTC
Hi does it work out cheaper buying it direct i pay £10.80 for a box of nature diet puppy, but will be introducing adult food in next couple of weeks as he is now 6 1/2 months. Which flavour should i try him with first and should i mix half and half at first? :)
- By sweetmimi [gb] Date 13.11.05 17:57 UTC
HI Bubbles I would put him on the original one or the lamb but not the chicken he is a bit young for that one.
I would put 3/4 of his puppy food and 1/4 of the adult food and then on a weekly basis just start increasing the adult food. Saying this though they can stay on the puppy naturediet until they are one year old.
I also mix a small amount of Burns Mini Bites but then mine a small dogs Bichon Frise, so I guess it all depends on the  breed and how big or how small they are.
The one good thing about Nauturediet is you can e mail them or even phone them not only to order the food but to get advice on anything to do with your dog as well  Hope this helps Babs

You can call Surrey Pet Supplies (Horsham), they also have a web site, and ask if they have any available.
