Topic Dog Boards / General / Teacup Chihuahua Question
- By Admin (Administrator) Date 25.10.05 14:56 UTC
Does anyone know the Kennel Clubs official stance on this 'version'? Does anyone know the breed clubs official stance on 'teacup chihuahua'? Is there actually anything written down officially anywhere by either of these organisations? I am looking for something 'official' that I can refer would-be owners to. I would apprecitate any help :)

There is no such thing as a Teacup CHihuahua or any other breed, just a stupid name made up by idiots who want to con the general public.

All you need from the KC is a copy of the breed standard, but if you want to send it or give it to someone or put it on an internet site you have to get an agreement from the KC for you to use it.

I don't think the breed standard would be very helpful as it states "If two dogs are equally good in type the more diminutive preferred." which could easily be missinterpreted as health matters irrelevant.
Perhaps direct contact with the KC and the Breed club would be the only sure way of finding out if they have a policy on this, Admin.

So not under 2 lbs in weigh basically These Teacup breeders stress the under this limit some being badly deformed

Yes SWD, I am aware of the protocol. I was hoping that maybe there was something official that actually says that Teacup Chihuahua's are not a recognised breed. Quoting a breed standard at people doesn't seem to make any difference as they just interpret that as 'teacup' and stating "there is no such breed" does not cover it unfortunately. I was hoping that maybe someone who is a breed club member might be able to help? :)

Can't find anything 'UK' but the Chihuahua Club of America has a statement on their site which might be useful if you can't find anything better:

Statement

PS - maybe it would be an idea to send the link to the British Chihuahua Club and ask if they could publish something similar on their page?  Surely they must be concerned about the trend ... ?
