hi all i would like to ask hopefully (jacquie)!??
as this is a tricky one ive been researching mals for about 4 years before getting one but recently decided to look at heritage within the uk it would appear the first mals were brought here from usa in 1959 and bred in early sixtys by the prestons who bred 3 litters under the reg name "kananak" from then theres not much info...until highnoons which is responable for nearly all the rest under janet al haldahad (i think i spelt the name wrong!!!) who i would love to meet one day theres not any info from then can anyone fill in the blanks.....
thanks

Hi Steph,
I spoke to Janat recently, about a problem I had , now resolved thanks to Jacquie and Janat. But going back to subject, I'm sure if you gave her a ring she would tell you any information you require, she is a very nice lady, with all the time in the world to discuss Malamutes with. :)

Hi Steph,
If ever you see a copy of Jannat's book 'the history and management of the alaskan malamute' buy it. It is actually out of print which is a shame because it is a really good book. It deals with basic day to day living with a mal and has chapters on the history of the breed in England and should answer all your questions. Maybe you could borrow a copy if you can't find one. the only question it dosn't answer is how to stay sane when you have an in season bitch and a male screaming the place down for 24 hours a day. Yes, its Floyd and Jasmine!! I am going to go MAD!!!!!!!!!!!
Jayne

This is why I won't keep both sexes! :D

Hi Steph,
Jannat Al-haddad (then Janet Edmonds) purchased her first Mal, Aninrak of Kananak (Pawnee Flash of Northwind x Ambara's Nuviya), from the Preston's. She was from their first litter born in England in 1960, they went on to breed two more litters before returning to America with two of the original three dogs in 1961.
Kobuk Chancellor of Clebar (dog) was imported in 1963 by Mr and Mrs Cook,
Tote-Um's Arctic Hawk (dog) in 1966 by the partnership of Jannat, Janetta Parkyns, Mrs Pat Flanagan and Mr Robert Love,
Tote-Um's Tamahine of Seacourt in 1968 by Janetta Parkyns,
Tigara's Sam Spade (dog) and Tigara's Snow Flurry of Arctica (bitch) in 1975 by Mr J McNeil Brown then Tigara's Far Land Scot's Pride (dog), he also brought in Alashak's California Girl and - in partnership with Mr I Urquhart - Apple Hill Brio (in 1983).
In the late seventies Mr and Mrs Guit brought a dog, Snowlines Polar Night, back with them from Canada.
A litter was acquired by Janetta Parkyns from a mating in quarantine of a dog and bitch (Alvaasen's Wolf and Alvaasan's Mitzy) en route to Norway.
Jannat then went on to import Kimiska's Artic Sea Hawk of Highnoons (dog), in 1982, an in whelp Malnorska's Dannika of Highnoons in 1983, and Am. Ch Fire 'N' Ice In Conclusion (not sure what year he came over but he was born in 1984).
Also in 1983 Jackie and Barry Jackson imported Malnorska's Gypsy Lady.
Hope that basically answers your question.
As Jane says, I'm sure Jannat would be happy to chat to you about the breed and even for you to visit her if you wish.
Regards
Jacquie :)

Tote-Um's kennels can then be traced back initially to the 'Erowah' kennels in Denver where Dianna purchased her first mal and then through her three later dogs Kodara El Toro, Erowah Cinnamen and Pak N Puls Kaltag. I have tracked Kiera's pedigree back quite far now with the help of Janetta and Vicky Jones (vykon kennels) in the USA.

Hi Naomi
Thankyou for going to the trouble of asking about the dogs i was looking for :) I havnt got your email yet, maybe it takes longer to get here since i am so far away?? lol i have no idea! If i dont get it by tomorrow would you mind sending it again? if its no trouble of course :) My girl Kodi is 21 months old and her pedigree name is Kotuko Are You Jealous, she is out of Aust Ch Paharey BBlackmax and Aust Ch Paharey Snowballs. The Seacourt dogs are 4 generations back, whats your mals pedigree name? does he/she have any of the Seacourt dogs i mentioned in his/her lines? Also does Janetta have an email address? (or website) so that i could contact her if i want to ask any more questions about her dogs or just talk about mals, its kinda hard to ring her since i live all the way out here in Australia. Thankyou for all of your help, i really appreciate it :)
Well take care,
Nikki
