My puppy is approaching her first season and I am extremely concerned. The past week she has attempted to attack myself, my partner and my two children.

She is a loving puppy (Shar Pei) and we have had no problems what so ever in the past - she loves cuddles and to play tug with her toys, however the past week she has really frightened me.

Any tips on how to stop this agression of jumping at your face, scratching and biting would be greatly appreciated. She shows her teeth, growls and then pounces and attacks with great aggression and force.

Yeah - I did that and she thought that it was becuase she was due in season however i've had her properly checked at the vets and they said there are no signs what so ever.
So, i'm at a loss! Don't know what to do now!

My bitches certainly change before they come into season.  They not aggressive but they can get a bit skittish and worry about things that they wouldn't normally worry about.

my pup snapped at me the week she came into her first season. she hadnt done it before and hasnt done since. i spoke to the vet about it and they said it was quite common. i was really upset, so can understand how you are feeling, especially with kids. i would speak to your vet again and see if they can advise. sorry not much help!

Wait and see if she does come into season or not.  If she hasn't in a couple of weeks time, then you'll know it's something else.

Hi, my bitches temperament changes when she comes in season but she's never aggressive, she just becomes sulky, i'd be really worried if that was my dog i'd have another talk to my breeder and also the the vet.  Other than her season being due and as you said it's out of character for her, has anything else happened what you can think of?  she's not in any pain is she?

I had the same problem 4wks ago where my bulldog attacked me i phoned her breeder and was told she was suffering with PMT a couple of days later she came into season she has now become the loving dog we bought i was also told a bitch's first season is her worst so hopefully she won't ever do it again good luck
