Sorry if this has been covered but I can't find it :) Is anyone aware of any groups/lobbying the goverment to ban fireworks or at least ammend the dates they can be sold by?

I have just witnessed a poor dog a BC going paranoid at the end of his lead when someone let off a blinking great whizzy firework - poor dog :( and his poor owner. The lady was beside herself the dog almost hung himself trying to escape - Thank God he didn't . Took the chap from over the road Tony and me (we were chatting) to help her hold him Tony carried him home for her

Dont know about a petition but if I did I would sign it!!!! Fireworks: I hate them always have and always will.  They should only be allowed on Nov 5th at supervised/organised bonfires.  Poor dog and owner :-( hope they calmed down quickly when they got home. 

No idea, but if anyone finds one tell me!  Fireworks never used to bother me until I got Remy - his first firework night, I let him and Opi outside for a quick pee in a quiet spell, and some numbnuts let off the biggest firework of the night - no others, just that one, and there weren't any others for at least half an hour.  Remy is now scared of them, and shakes, pants and drools whenever they go off.

It would help if more people understood the effect they have - as the perfect example, I have a friend who isn't into dogs (she won't actually enter my house in case mine jump at her, even tho they don't jump at anyone).  She invited me out last year for fireworks night - I explained that I couldn't because Remy was terrified so I had to stay home to keep an eye on him - she just didn't understand, she said something along the lines of "he'll be fine, stop worrying so much."  Obviously I refused and stayed home, and she hasn't invited me since.  Oh well.

It is a problem, I'd sign a petition in a heartbeat and if someone was to suddenly advertise educational classes to explain the effect they have on our poor pooches I'd make all my friends go!  Either that, or I'd invite them over to my place on Nov 5th to watch Remy in action.

And I do hope that BC and his owner are okay :(

Sadly that has already happened, the law HAS recently been changed (last year) and fireworks can only be sold at certain times etc. But as we all know it has made NO difference at all! :(

The reason it has probably made no difference is MONEY. It now seems easier than ever to buy fireworks from more and more outlets

Fortunately for me it is not a problem as my dynamic Duo are not bothered by fireworks (one is too old to care, the other is too thick ;) ) I do feel for those dog owners whos dogs are scared witless tho :(

Trouble is they aren't just used for celebrating Nov 5th anymore but also for religious festivals such as Diwali.  I can only see the problem getting worse myself.

Exactly fireworks also seem to be mandatory for New Year celebrations too, so effectively its more or less now till 2006 :rolleyes:

I hate them too wish they would be banned fullstop, they are all accidents waiting to happen, and also temptation for any moron to use them in a savage way. Having said that it's me who has the problem, my dog hasn't been bothered with the few that have gone off over the last couple of weeks.
