What is the most wholesome food for dogs??  I have a very picky mini dachshund, and he does not eat nearly the suggested amount.  I want to give him a high quality food that can sustain him on a relatively small volume.  Ideally, the food will not be filled with any by products and additives.  Are there any good organic foods on the market?  Any suggestions???  At the moment he is on arden grange, but he goes off it after a while.

Does it have to be dry? Nature Diet is really good. I wouldn't set too much store by the manufacturer's feeding guide on dry food as I've never had a dog that has eaten more than half what it says on the pack and have been the correct weight. Unless his bones are sticking out, the chances are he's getting enough food - few dogs will starve themselves and you don't really want a fat dachsie unless you want them to have back trouble.

I know very few dogs that eat more than 2/3rds of the amount suggested on the feeding guides.

Unless your dog is obviously underweight (al the ribs and backbone showing sharply) then I woudl leave him on the Arden grange.

How much is he eating (think 2-3oz would probably be plenty).

You should wnat him nice and slim as that will be better for his back, and keep him nice and athletic.

I put my boy on JWB a couple of months ago and all seems fine so far! He eats just over half of the recommended amount. :-)

thank you for your comments.  He eats about 30 grams a day, but my vet has said to increase his food as he is a bit thin.  I just cannot get him to eat anymore, he leaves the rest behind.  He does not like JWB, and I think I will have stick with arden grange.

Have you actually weighed the food  That would be less than a handful in a womans hand.  What else does he get in the way of treats and how many meals a day is he on?

I kept my anorexic bitch on Arden Grange Prestige as it is very concentrated, and she was super on it, excellent coat and muscle, lean but very healthy.  Time took care of the rest and she built up in body with maturity.
