Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Whats the difference

I feed my dogs Nutro natural choice lamb n'rice... Went to the petstore yesterday cause I only had a bowl left and all they had was large breed lamb n'rice, there orders have not come in yet :( grrrrrrrr.... I use to feed small bites but found my dogs enjoyed the normal size kibble better and well the large breed seems to have the same size kibble as my normal bag.... I never noticed much of a huge difference with the ingredients but this shouldn't do any harm to my boston terriers should it being fed the large breed? Taz being a large breed I still fed him the same stuff as my bostons and never went for small bites, large breed ect. The other difference I have noticed was that the large breed was a lil cheaper lol.... Just wondering really what is the difference between the Large breed, Normal and Small Bites... or is it really just advertising more then anything?  Am planning on going back to my normal bag tho once this food is gone...

Thank you :)

I cant say for certain ( as i dont know the brand)but the difference between normal and large breed feed is usually that the large breed has a higher protien content.
Im sure someone will correct me there if im wrong :)

Usually it is actually a lower protein content to prevent over fast growth inlarge breeds in the puppy foods.  In the adult versions it is usually the kibble size to encourage chewing.

Hi Dollface, probably worth checking on their website (if you haven't got an old bag) if ingredients are in exactly the same quantities.  The food I'm currently using (different brand) I feed the large/giant adult version to my itsy bitsy 18KG bitch but the only difference between the medium and large/giant version is the size of the kibble in that brand and she prefers larger, crunchier pieces.

Regards, Teri :)

I would have thought large breed food would be "lower" in protein. There is some sort of  marketing gimmick going on aswell, the more versions a company makes, the more shelf space they have ;)

You need to find out the percentages of the ingredients to know for sure if there really is a difference.

I feed Nutro and I have Giant breeds...my are not fed Giant breed after 6 months...it has a HIGHER protein content, but I feel after 6 months they are better off on the ordinary lamb and rice. Go to http://www.nutro.co.uk/ for more infomation. You might find the doggies are a bit more 'hyper' on the large breed stuff!!! :D If you join the Breeder/Exhibitor program at Nutro you can get free dekivery, as I do, but minimum order has to be 30kgs or more. It's also cheaper than the shops!! I order 60kgs at a time. My Yorkie loves the Lamb and Rice and doesn't eat the samll size kibble! Actually it isn't a marketing ploy, but a way of accommodating every breed type! NO, I don't work for them, just am very happy with the product, certainly doean't contain the rubbish that other commercial feed contains! All the best, Dawn

Thank you :)

Doesn't look like to much of a difference and they seem to like it as well, but think I will be buying the normal adult one, they should have a shipment in by then lol
