Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Viszla and cocker spaniel mix

I had a unbelieveable dog that was so amazing.  He was a cocker spaniel and a viszla cross.  He was absolutely perfect...around 67 pounds and instead of the red nose like the traditional viszla, he had a black nose and lips like his black cocker spaniel Mommy.  Anyway, At 13 years old, he passed away Oct 11, 2004 and we miss having a dog around.  We would love to find the same mix if possible...I was wondering if anyone had heard of this mix or have stumbled across them by accident.  We would love more information on where we could find one.  My email is dermi8@yahoo.com if anyone has any info.  Thank you.  Susan

Your best bet would be to contact the rescue centers in your area. There are lots of cross bred dogs needing loving homes :)

Unfortunately even if there was someone with that accidental mix (fairly unlikely as Viszlas are by no means common) then there is very little likelihood that another pup of this cross would be anything like your previous dog.

Even with a full typical pedigree where you can at least be sure of the physical characteristics being pretty similar one from another, and to some extent some of the main drives and behavioural characteristics being predictble, you still find each and every dog is an individual, and it is never a good idea to compare one to a loved departed friend, as it will only lead to disappointment.

It sounds like your dog took the major part of his heredity from his sire size wise, so I suggest looking into Viszla rescue for a new friend, it may be that they get the odd crossbred one in.  Contact the breed club who will be able to advise the rescue contacts, or for that matter reputable breeders, if a puppy is what you want.

Hi Susan i have never heard of a reputable breeder who deliberatly cross`s Vizslas with a spaniel.
Ive heard of cases where they have been crossed with other HPR breeds such as GSPs or pointers.
I saw a pointer x Vizsla and it was a black bodied with white chest pointer looking dog.
personally I wouldnt look for a cross and would be very sceptical about anyone who deliberatly bred these.
I would suggest contacting the HVS & HVC rescues and breed club or the same for the Spaniels.
you would be far better to go for a pure bred puppy from health tested parents from either breed :)
