Any suggestions of a good shed or simular that would be warm and safe.
Not too expensive with xmas coming up.
Son has moved back in so need the office back for him.

Have a look in your local B & Q Warehouse - at this time of year they sell off all the "cabins" and sheds etc you might find something there ;)

It all depends on how much money you want/need to spend!  Obviously, if its to be an office, you'll have electricity installed, so you could use electric heaters - but that might prove too expensive!  You could go for the portable calor gas ones - or you could install one of the woodburning stoves.

The cabins are, I understand from people who have had one installed as the "teenage bunkroom" :D quite snug, and draught-proof.

Must admit, I've thought about installing one as the dog room when we do eventually move, instead of the kennels.....

They're not exactly cheap - but they are solid!

>Yeah, you got to have a Calor gas heater!

Calor gas heaters should only ever be used in very well ventilated areas as they produce a lot of moisture in the air (1 litre of moisture per litre of fuel burned) and can cause serious condensation problems. Just something to bear in mind, given that it's likely to be a wooden structure oir you might end up needing to run a dehumidifier along side it.

Oh well maybe i should stick him in attic then lol.
But he wouldnt get up there as he is on crutches at the moment.
Will be glad when his plaster comes off, 1 more week to go out of 6 weeks.

Buy a cheap tourer caravan. That way it not a permanent fixture and you'll be able to get a really good deal at this time of year. Hook it up to mains electricity and use heater either of gas or electric. Then when and if son moves back out you can sell the tourer and get your money back if you sell through summer.

I use a little oil-filled radiator in my shed in the garden, I got it from Argos for £25.  Takes a couple hours to set it up - you have to let it warm up then fiddle a bit to get the thermostat set at the right temperature - but once it's done it's great, and you can switch it off if needs be without needing to reset the thermo.  My shed is where all my mice, rats and degus go, so it's essential to have heat in there, and my little oil radiator is perfect!  No smell either.

Our shed/kennel is insulated with polystyrene foam sheeting with plywood over.  If it's good enough for the dogs, I guess it would suit a husband!

OH has a stone/brick built/tin roof workshop in the garden, insulated with polystyrene blocks/spray foam stuff in gaps/double glazing (found the glazed bits in a skip and knocked on the door, built the windows around them ;) )  heated with an oil filled radiator - its his home from home and is really snug :)

One thing to remember is to insulate the ceiling and floor ;)  its surprising how much warmer it'll stay if they are done too :D

Cant you just put him in a crate in the kitchen and teach him to be quiet.  They soon learn potty training too that way and you don't spend the whole day putting your toilet seat back down.

Seriously though, mine tends to live in the garage.  Its like Aladdin's cave in there, all his wood working stuff and de humidifier (bought for the house) and electric fire no expense spared.
- By lazydaze [gb] Date 23.10.05 14:26 UTC
Lmao Echo, I have a big enough crate too :)
We are suppose to be in for a really bad winter this year, so maybe i should wait till after, or he might freeze his b---s off lol.

Thanks for all the ideas, got a lot of planning and thinking to do :d

Just a word of warning....you may find that your household insurance does not cover the contents of an outside office. Most policies dont cover sheds. You will have to take care what is left in there. :)

We used the Rockwool insulation in the shed and the kennels, it fits in the panels of the shed , sprayed the wood wil spray adhesive and put the wall boarded on top, it looks very neat, but keeps the chills out, we used to use it for the outside avery for the birds we have in the winter. And it cuts out lose of most of the heat from heats

We breed specialist budgiers,, the white's, Lutino and Rainbows, we have up to about 100 now, and a few Kakariki's, my some has a african grey but it is barred from my home his phrases would put a sailor to shock.

He was owned by 2 brothers before they got him.
