I was trying to find Gaby's message reference recurring cystitis in dogs, couldn't find again when I logged in so hope she finds this.  My 10 year old Australian Cattle Dog has over the last six months started up with cystitis she has had about three lots of cystitis now, the vets did tests on her and found she has a complaint that is common in cats and she now has to take Canine Cystaid which is 500mg N acetyl D Glucosamine 99%, it is a bit expensive but can see no other option seeing as antibiotics no longer touch it.

A few years ago my cat had to have antibiotics for cystitis. The vet said it could be either a one off or she could be prone to it so when it recurred I gave her homeopathic Cantharis and it worked a treat. She had 3 or 4 bouts of it and it worked each time and she's been clear in the last couple of years. :-) 

Worth a try and at least does no harm. There are other remedies for cystitis though so best to check which one is most appropriate for your dog. :-)

Hi there, sorry so long in my reply. Gabi has not suffered with cystitus for the last 6 months. We noted that the cystitus re-occured every time she was on heat. The vet was not convinced this was related but since having her spayed and changed her diet to BARF she has not had it since. During the first 12 months of life Gabi was at the vets nearly every week (thank god for Pet Plan) not only did she have re-occuring cystitus but she had Struvite Crystals in her urine, Dermodicosis, Anal Gland problems and Ring Worm as well. Since changing her diet we have not had one visit to the vet. My poor girl was pumped with Anti- Biotics, Steroids and Cystaid all of which did not help at all. It was just one thing after another. I must add that as well as changing the diet we gave her mixed veg tablets and Garlic and Fenugreek tablets as advised by Dorwest Herbs for Urine problems. Sometimes your own hunches pay off. I hope that this will be of some use to you.
