Hello i have a 1 year old female gsd she is very friendly my problem is when i take her for walks she wants to get to other dogs she will pull wine and bark i dont want her to go up to any strange dogs because little breeds of dogs have snapped at her before so i tend to keep her on lead

Your best course of action is to attend a good training club with experienced trainers who will help you.

As polly has said it would be a good idea to take her to socialisation classes, where she will meet loads of dogs.  I took my girl from an early age and she's not the slightest bit interest in other dogs we see on works, dont worry yours could be the same with some good training, good luck.

warm regards susan

If you let us know in which area you live, one of us might be able to advise you of the nearest training club is.

Try and teach her 'watch me' at home, start will a treat and bring it near your face and when she looks  at you (you may need to say her name to get her attention) say 'watch me' and give her the treat, keep at that for a few days and gradually make her wait longer for the treat. The will get her concentrating on you. Then when she is doing that at home, start with her on the end of a lead in the house and get her to walk a few paces and then turn a quarter turn and get her to sit by your side and then say 'watch me' when she is good at that try it out side with not dogs near (somewhere quite until she is good at it) don't forget to make her turn away for the way she is going. When she does that every time do it when a dog is coming towards you turn her round so she is not facing the dog and make her sit and say 'watch me'. She should ignore the dog and watch you, if she is quite wit for it to pas and give her the treat and lots of praise.
