Topic Dog Boards / Health / Low white platelet count

My cross Lily on Tuesday was 'sick' 4 times (more like bile, a yellowy frothy type substance) anyway, didn't think any more about it just assumed she was little unwell but she ate her dinner and was fine in herself.  Yesterday she did the same but this time the bile was like a gluey substance and almost impossible to clean up because of the consistency, but in herself she appeared fine, barking and wagging tail at walking time.  It was only when she refused food that I got a bit more worried.  Called the vet and they said allow her to take some water and see how she is in the morning.  However, after taking some water up came the bile again.  So, took her the vet and they checked her for liver and kidney problems via a blood test and that was all fine.  However, they noted that her white platelet count is low and they want to see her again this evening.  Does anyone know what any of this might mean?  Thanks

white cells and platelets are two different things, white cells are infection markers whereas platelets are involved in clotting. Hopefully the vet will clarify things for you! Good luck.

Thank you Poppynurse, as you can see, I am clearly not a nurse!  Good news though, they think it just a stomach infection and her count is low because she is trying to fight it off (apparently this is what happens) so once she's off her medication we just have to keep an eye on her.  One thing for sure is her appetite is back :p
