Well after six weeks of increased excercise I have so far lost 8 lbs and feel so much better ! :D

I am doing at least half an hour a day during the week and at the weekends or working from home I am doing at least an hours workout

I am using my walker, extra fast walking when taking the girls out, swimming, going to the gym and cycling. This is the problem one.

I am doing quite fast cycling and it makes me get out of breath which results in mouth open and swallowing of many horrible flies :( I know the answer is to try and keep my mouth shut. (Find that one naturally very difficult :D ) but if I am riding hard I can't help it  I have just come back from a 3/4 hr ride and have consumed at least 10 of the horrible things :(

Any ideas on how I can minimise this?  I don't fancy the idea of a mask as hate anything over my mouth as it makes me feel suffocated. I have tried keeping my head down but then don't feel I am keeping a good enough eye on the road for those mad motorists :)

Mmmm yes there is that but you have to use a tooth pick to get the blighters out when you get back :p

Seriously they get stuck in the back of your throat and it is horribe as it is either swallow or try and spit them out :)

I have found the best thing is a handkerchief, folded into a triangle and then placed over the nose/mouth and tied behind the head-you look like Butch Cassidy but what the hell!

Lucy You think this is a problem on a push bike - try an open top car, I cant keep my mouth shut for grinning = dreadful quantities of flies :D Only answer is to drive/ ride at night ;)

Where do you get all those flies from - I do two hours a day commute on my bike and the last time I swallowed one was a couple of months ago! Mind you I cycle in London perhaps the pollution puts them off :D.

One thing if you are cycling to get fit you will probably find very soon you won't get out of breath quite so easily so the flies will become less of a problem :D.  I

I am right in rural Oxfordshire and we have lots of flies especially around the farms :)

That is true about getting fitter but I think it will be a while until that happens and also the hills get less steep :D

AAAAH  now that's why I never cycle, living in south wales an all....its all up hill both ways :D

You've got me wondering now..

Motorcycle helmets have visors, why don't cycle helmets?
