I want to teach my dog to shut the door.  She will touch the palm of my hand with her nose on command but I can't seem to get over that I now want her to touch the door so that I can progress from there.  I have had the back of my hand against the door and hoped that I would be able to go on from there but I am not getting anywhere.  What do I do?

Try a Post It note.

Teach her to target a Post It note that you stick anywhere.  Dog runs to Post It note and touches it then click, treat.

Stick note on door when the door is open, dog's nose on note should be enough to push door closed.

If it's not, withhold the click so the dog is frustrated and exaggerates the behaviour.  She will push harder.

Gradually make the Post It note smaller and smaller (tear it smaller) and stop sticking it in other places.  Then fade it altogether.
