my 6mth labrador bitch is fantastic on the lead BUT when we get to a certain point on our walk to school she starts pulling for about 100m until she has reached her favorite spot to have a poo she then walks perfectly by my side no pulling.should i try to correct this as is it just habit or do you think this is just that she is desperate for a poo
Well, she should be able to poo everywhere, don't you think? Not just in her favourite place? What will you do if you move house or go on holiday, drive her back to her favourite place every day??!
Of course she should never pull. Stop walking if she pulls. That includes if she's pulling to get somewhere for something!

i know she should poo anywhere however she has been trained not to poo on the pavement only grass so she has to wait until we reach it. there is no need to be so nasty
i agree kipper, my dogs pulls as he has been trianed to poo on grass. but mine tend to go off the lead now on the dog walking field near me, that is covered in dog doo bins..
my boy has a fave place so is molly its not uncommen to poo where she feels comfy, mine do it all the time.. maybe she just feels safe or is desperate to go..
when she gets older she will go elceware i think if not consult you vet for better advice..

Try to vary the walk, don't take the same route every time, and approach her favourite spot from different directions if at all possible. That way she'll not know what to expect and will not anticipate in the same way. :)

Goldmali so you think this is habit then not desperation

From my experiance I'd say it was habit. You do say you have trained her to use grass so you'll have to make sure there is plenty of grass available on a different route.
In someways dogs are very straight forward thinkers "my master wants me to poo in a certain spot so that's where I'll do it and I'll wait till we get there" hence the eagerness to reach that spot. I suspect in her mind it's not "her favorite" spot but "your favorite" spot :). I'd try a different route and when she does her stuff praise her for it, she'll soon get the message that it's not where she does it that's important.
I agree. It's great to train your dog only to go on one surface if you really do always want her only to go on that surface, and you know there will always be some available to you, wherever you go. Otherwise it's probably not a good thing to train, is it??
I'm not being nasty, but it did seem a weird question.
I much prefer when my dogs go on tarmac, much easier to pick up than when it's on grass.

Thankyou for replying when we are on other walks not the school run she goes poo in different places. The problem i have is that because we live in a small village the path is single file and is basically a painted section of the road which is up against houses so she tends to go on the first piece of grass we get to (sometimes she waits until we get further but most of the time its the first grass we reach about 15mins into the walk) If she has been for a poo at home before her walk she does not pull. The reason she was trained only to go on grass is because of the paths in our village the last thing i want is us causing an accident on the road as with 3 little kids school bags etc and all the others using the path it really isn't safe to have to stop for her to poo and clear it up etc
and onetwothree i may have over reacted to your comments but i did say favorite not only place she poos
after all chocolate may be my favorite but it doesn't mean i don't eat anything else
