Topic Dog Boards / Health / help beheaded tick!

Hi! Two days ago I removed two ticks from my dog. They weren't engorged ticks (very brown & flat) Maybe because the dog is treated with Frontline! I managed to get the whole of one out, but the other, sited on her belly, was very stubborn & much to my dismay I sort of beheaded it with the head remaining in her skin. I treated it with Betadine & the site seems fine but the black bit remains. Do you think after two days she could get any trouble with this infection- wise? Will the head ease itself out at some stage? I suppose with long haired breeds these ticks go un-noticed but because I can easily see it perhaps I am fussing too much!

Yes they do get expelled in time they just seem to form a scab and can be picked off after a few days, just keep an eye on the site to be sure it is not showing any signs of infection ie pus, excessive redness.

Thanks Isabel. I will watch out for signs of infection. A vet once told me to buy the Betadine ointment for any sort of skin lesion so that keeps any nasties at bay. Regards Lizzy.
