I'm off to my dad's OH's house on Saturday to clip her poodle.  She's looking after her daughter's westie pup, and the daughter has asked if I could groom pup.  She says she doesn't want him clipped yet, just "thinned out".

What I'm wondering is, to those of you who've been grooming for more than a year :D and those who've groomed more than just adult westies (the only young pup I've done was a yorkie), how old do you think he should be before his first clip?  I know she will want him clipped, but when I was asked how old he should be I'm afraid I looked a bit blank!!  I did say she should be getting him used to being groomed and so on -and have since heard back that she's been brushing him every day since she's had him, so he's a good little pup :) he's about 5 months now we think, will double check on saturday though.

Are they going to Show the Westie??? Maybe they should just give a little trim and leave him some coat for the winter??? Sorry, can't help further, I have a ickle Yorkie that I've started showing but they have a long coat anyway!!! All the best, Dawn.

At 5 months, I'd just top and tail him and pull out any puppy coat that will come out easily.
