hi everyone, i was wondering if anybody could help, my friends rottie puppy got a attacked by anther dog when he was four months old, hes now six months and everytime he see or hears a dog, he gets really scared and runs away and if hes on the lead, he just drag you away, she tied to take him to puppy class but they were all booked up, theres only one in our area, and he cant travel far to take him to anther area for classes, please could anyone give us some adivse thank you sue
hi Sue - I read your post on the other board, where you said you were looking for another rottie puppy to go with the 6 month old one you have now.
So this 'friend' also has a 6 month old rottie pup, is that right?
Is the friend a he or a she, because at first you say 'SHE tried to take him to puppy class' and then you say 'HE can't travel far'....?
Sorry if I seem cynical - am having a bad day.

I wouldn't advise on this sort of thing over the net, as it's so easy to get misunderstood, and for the dog to suffer as a result. You really need to persaude your friend that she/he needs to get some hands on advice from an experienced trainer - at 6 months the pup is too old for puppy classes - it needs carefully controlled socialisation over a period of weeks or months - this is going to take a long time to unlearn what the dog has learnt since it was attacked.

You can buy travel tablets for dogs in pet stores, they usually work ;) If the pup is difficult to control in the car buy a large crate to put in the back, most dogs settle in one quite happily. This way the pup will have the chance to be out and about more often ;)
I found the Bach Rescue remedy vey good in stressful situations, and I've used it on my dogs too, it really seems to make a difference, perhaps it would be worth giving some before the classes (about an hour before) just drop it on the dogs nose and he'll lick it off (same dose as for humans) you may find it makes all the difference.

Get together with a group of people with well socialized and calm dogs playful dogs , slowly introduce her to them and they'll be playing in no time! Take it slow and get her to meet as many well mannered dogs as possible , maybe a dog park (if your in North America).
