Your vet should have warned you about the possible side effects of Rimadyl.

Rimadyl is a fantastic drug and all mine have had it at some point for one thing or another.
It could be a side effect of the drug because as with any drug some suit some and others don't, but it could equally be just a tummy upset.
I would have a chat with your vet to see what he/she recomends.

Scroll down to side effects.

My GSD was on Rimadyl last year for Anal furunclosis and I think they said if he was sick or had an upset tummy to take him off them.   I did read some terrible things about this drug on the internet though and don't think I would be happy to use them again.

Used it loads of times, never had a problem, its like everything "some" dogs will react most wont.

My old Goldie (almost 16yrs) has been on it or some time now, thankfully without side effects and it has enhanced her quality of life no end. I guess it may be a case of weighing up the pros and cons of such medication for some.

My dogs have never had a problem with it either.

Being one of those VERY unfortunate owners, I would use Rimadyl to make an old dog comfortable, but only as a last resort when everything else has failed.
It is certainly used daily to good effect by very many dog owners. I just wish that ALL Vets would advise owners of the possible side effects so that they would know if their dog had a bad reaction.  Unfortunately, this doesn't happen or OP wouldn't be asking what the side effects were! :(

Read ther side effects of most drugs human and animal and you would think twice about using any of them.
But we still do and in most instances without problem just benefit.
Obviously any side effects from any drug should be checked out with the doctor or vet to make sure it is not a detrimental reaction.

And so we should Bev!  There are plenty of people who find that the treatment has given them more problems than the original one that their Doctor was treating them for!!
But we still do and in most instances without problem just benefit.
Yes, you're quite right.  There are many who follow like sheep and think that their Doctors and Vets are God!  But a growing number are realising that they are just human, like the rest of us, and look for a more gentle remedy before resorting to unnecessary drugs with disasterous side effects.  Medicine, both human and veterinary are important, life changing areas where we need complete information to make good choices.  And for those who are happy to be sheep, that's just fine too.:)

Have a word with your Vet dina.  He should know what's happened.  I hope that she's OK. :)

Val, I do hope you weren't having a pop at me over my post, I can only speak as I find.
- By Val [gb] Date 17.10.05 07:09 UTC
Not at all lib. ;)  We must all speak as we find, although some have experience of one or two pet dogs and others of 100 dogs per month, which obviously gives a bigger (and maybe more accurate?) picture. ;)  As I said It is certainly used daily to good effect by very many dog owners.
My 'pop' (love it!) is at Vets who don't give their clients all the information to allow them to make balanced decisions. :(

As Val says, vets should be advising clients of potential side effects when prescribing this drug.  In America, a lawsuit was taken out against the manufacturers by the owner of a dog who died after taking Rimadyl.  The outcome can be found at :

(Sorry, links and me just don't get on :) )
