HELP............
I am full of a horrible cold which has been caught off one of my OH's neice's.
I feel dreadful full of snot (sorry for description, it's not infected at the moment)
which is in all the sinuses as my ears are crackling everytime I swallow.
I have the most horrendous sore throat and an irritating cough.
Right now for the hard part does anyone have any remedies that will get rid of the damn thing
in extra quick time??
My problem is I'm extra busy at work and one of the ladies there (not in the same office) is undergoing chemo so
I want to lessen the risks to her (she's currently working p/t when she's able to).
So it's a big dilemma. I fought the damn 'bug' all last week and finally succumbed to it on Friday.
At the moment I'm trying Vic's vapo rub at night, oilbas oil in the day.
I'm taking Tesco's own cold remedy capsules which contain a decongestant & paracetmol.
I've started to take echinea (spelling) and have now started taking my multi vitamins.
I'm hunting out the garlic capsules too.........:D
I'm a mild asthma sufferer - which is being aggreviated at the moment.
Anything else I can try??

You can try upping the Vit C - it does sometimes help - extra fruit juice, eating pineapple (good for clearing mucous) Vit C tablets as well - some people swear by it.
Hope you soon feel better :)
Margot
Great thanks Margot,
I'll go and get some fruit juice and some pineapple (along with some more boxes of tissues).
I thought I'd get the blooming cold as the little girl was very poorly
with it last weekend and she had a throat infection along with it
and I'm so suseptible when it comes to ears/nose/throat infections :(
Serves me right for not taking my multi vits all the time.

My favourite for colds is a good single malt, come to think of it that's my fav for almost anything!
Seriously to help you sleep at night and stop being bunged up get an onion, cut it in half and leave it on your bedside table-yes it does stink but you can't smell it! :-) It will clear your sinuses by the morning.

My old mum used to swear by a tot of whisky as well, when she had a cold but was tee total the rest of the time. She was a nurse and swore by the decongestant and warming effect of a good malt.
I will try the pinaple for shifting the muc. sounds like a very good idea.
I'll get the onions as well.
A good one i use is fresh lemon sliced, big spoon of honey, chopped garlic, and fresh ginger, in a jug with boiling water poured on upto about a pint, let it stand awhile, strain and sip through out the day.
the ginger helps loosen mucous, honey and lemon for the sore throat and garlic for antibacterial properties. You could also add a wee nip at bedtime too to aid sleep :)
Oooh I might be able to get the other half to get these ingredients down Tesco's then!!
As I don't think our local Somerfields (small) will have the fresh ginger needed.
Thanks
Kirstine
You could always use the chopped ginger in jars instead of fresh. its by EPC and called very lazy ginger, even our local co op stocks it and thats not a big store. Usually kept where the herbs and spices are.
One thing thou it is in vinegar so make sure you rinse/wash the ginger in water first :D
Only trouble I can't drink alcohol cause I have a fatty liver :(
Forgot to add it wasn't caused by alcohol either..
It was discovered by accident on a scan I had last year..so I've been told
to avoid alcohol etc.
Like to be a complicated patient eh!
Hi i swear by a boiled onion. just boil a whole onion then put it in a bowl add some butter and pepper. doesnt sound very nice but it always does the trick for me.
other than that try the beechams flu plus capsules and if you have any menthol crystals try them in boiling water towel over your head and have a steam for a couple of seconds.ive just got over a proper stinging cold, hope your feeling better soon regards polly_45
Hot lemonade with 2 dissolvable paracetomol always works for me :-)
Oooh I forgot that one, my nan used to say about hot old fashioned lemonade with the real lemon
bits in.....
Hmmm.
Going through tissues like no-ones business today, nose is now red as anything and now off
to raid the dogs show bag for the vaseline that I use on their noses :D
Thanks :) Hope so I've got a champ show next saturday and don't want to be poorly for that...
Hope you are feeling much better too
Day and Night nurse are very good. I had been suffering for a few days and when I took some night nurse capsules I had a really good nights sleep :)
Hmmm! Looks like a lot of us are suffering. I've got the worst cold I have had for donkeys years and so as the OH. He of course is away with the paracetamol and the nasal spray and left me with nothing......I am not going to say a word!! Having just raided the cupboards I am enjoying a glass of hot lime juice and honey, quite tasty really. :-)
At the first sign of a cold/sore throat, etc, I always take a zinc tablet. Has worked quite well for me so far.

Cut milk out from your diet. Its milk that causes all the snot :-D

Sorry you're feeling ill :(
Lanes herbal Cold and Catarrh tablets are brilliant, but I haven't been able to find them this year, I've been using Lanes SINOTAR tablets instead. They have the same ingredients, but I have to go to a health shop for them. They still work tho :)
I've had the cold from my little-un and a viral throat infection from OH :( they caught me in a double-whammy rotten sw*nes, its been trying to turn into a chest infection but I'm determined not to give in.
So....
Sinotar
Vapour rub
Olbas oil
and Sandalwood oil - helps get rid of the wheezy feeling and mucus, I'm not asthmatic but I feel quite wheezy and gurgly with the infection near my larynx.
Next time that pair get an infection they can go live in the workshop GRRRRR
salt and vinegar crisps and orange juice :D trust me!!
Try gargling with soluable aspirin- should help sore throat- or salt and boiled water. Hope you're feeling better soon.
i'm quite lucky-i rarely get colds, but OH does (i blame the air con in his office. I work in an office that doesn't believe in air con. Its been broke as long as i've been there-heading on 3 year which is scary, so its either baltic or maftin').... As soon as he feels one coming on, he downs the Beechams All In One, and it doesn't develop. I tried it when i last had a cold, and it was fantastic.

Hi sherbet leamons help with the cough. regards debbie.
Chemists do a red pack of cough sweets called I believe Megazones. They taste disgusting BUT it only takes a couple a day to keep you clear and a sore throat at bay.
Another thing is to make a 'soup' with chicken stock or a tin of chicken soup. Heat it through and addas much onion garlic, ginger and chilli as you think you cna stand. allow to simmer for at least half an hour, then blitz and drink befor a hot bath and bed. You will sweat like mad but it really does help you sweat out all of those nasty bugs. Keeps vampires and other halves away as well :)
Hope that you feel better soon.
LOL @ Bluebell
Do you have a vampire problem where you live then? :D :D
