Yup - sounds like fleas

Never heard of hedgehog fleas staying on a dog (and we rescued one in the summer, a daylight baby :(  not a flea in sight :) they aren't always flea ridden )  it could be cat fleas tho (and a cat might cause your pooch to go mental :D )  and the little bugg*rs are NASTY, get some frontline or whatever you swear by and nuke those nasties ;)  you might need to do the house too :( they are little horrors.

One of my dogs bought a hedgehog indoors once,  I thought it was an old slipper at first!!  He was covered in fleas, managed to get the hedgehog back out, but next day dog was still covered, He was a white standard poodle and they really showed up, plus all the little spines from the hedgehog round his mouth, YUK! Also had to deflea the house.

"plus all the little spines from the hedgehog round his mouth"

Hedgehogs don't lose their spines like porcupines, if your dog had spines around his mouth in his fur etc, then the poor hedgehog had been badly damaged :( or dead :(

Hedghog fleas are not the same as dog fleas. They don't jump.
I have two hedgy's visit my garden and my cats have had hedgy fleas a couple of times. They stay on the ears and don't travel around the body at all. They are easily removed with a flea comb.
I also de-flea my visiting hedgy's every couple of months to make them more comfortable.

Cat fleas do jump tho, they are very active and seem to have a much nastier bite then dog fleas :(  They also are very partial to dog blood :( :(

Hi Dill

Yes the Hedgehog was damaged, my dog had obviously thrown it all over the place before bringing indoors, he was trying to chuck it round the living room before we got it off of him.  Fortunately the hedgie survived.
